Yves Saint Laurent heart gold-plated case: the Swiss fashion watch with a signature dial
This Yves Saint Laurent watch is a women's fashion piece, made in Switzerland, whose case adopts a full and domed heart shape, entirely gold-plated. Far from a classic haute horlogerie watch, it belongs to the world of couture objects: a jewel watch designed by française fashion house at its peak. The white lacquered dial is the watch's defining gesture. Why does the dial have no indices?
Because the letters of the name Yves Saint Laurent serve that purpose: they run all around the dial, echoing the shape of the heart, with only the gilded XII remaining at the top. This is a fashion-house design choice rather than a watchmaker’s one, and it is precisely what makes this watch immediately recognizable. The intertwined monogram YSL occupies the center of the dial.
Is the case solid gold?
No. It is a gold-plated case with a steel back, a common construction on watches from fashion houses. The plating brings the warmth and radiance of gold for a fraction of its price. This piece shows signs of wear on its plating, disclosed transparently and consistent with its age.
