Seiko stainless steel cushion: the high-end Japanese dress watch with woven dial and basket-weave bracelet
This Seiko watch is a dress watch suitable for both men and women, representative of early-1980s Japanese architectural design. Its octagonal cushion case in steel, with chamfered angles and polished surfaces, extends into an integrated bracelet with a basket-weave pattern that gives the piece its overall unity. The case measures 31mm (32.5mm with the crown) for a Lug-to-lug of 36mm and a thickness of just 6mm. A slim, dense, and graphic watch.
The silver dial is the defining feature of the piece. Its surface reveals a fine woven checkerboard texture, which echoes the bracelet pattern exactly and catches the light in successive small squares. Applied gilt baton hour markers rhythmically frame the perimeter, double at 12 o'clock, and the small contemporary Seiko medallion sits beneath the center. Two faceted gilt hands and a slender seconds hand complete a display that is as legible as it is refined. The Seiko Quartz signature occupies the top of the dial.
Beating inside is the Seiko 6030 caliber, a high-end quartz movement with eight jewels, fitted with a fine rate-adjustment screw, a rare refinement on a battery-powered movement. Its original stated accuracy was ±15 seconds per month. Produced from 1980 onward, it equipped the brand's most carefully finished lines. The movement of this example has been checked by our watchmaker and the battery replaced before shipment. It is the slim construction of this caliber that allows the 6mm profile.
On the wrist, the integrated bracelet in steel, with basket-weave links, gives the watch a seamless presence, halfway between a dress watch and a sporty de ville. Adjustable up to a 21cm wrist circumference, it hugs the wrist without slack. The fluted crown is set into the right side.
