A fluted bezel cut by eight polished facets, a silvered dial that sixty years have speckled, and the manufacture's star below twelve o'clock. Each reflection falls elsewhere.
The Sporto: a fluted bezel on a 35mm steel case
This Zenith watch belongs to the Sporto line, dated to the 1970s. The case is in steel, 35mm, with long, angular lugs that bring the watch to 44.5mm Lug-to-lug — a presence that goes well beyond its diameter.
The fluted bezel defines the piece. A tight vertical guilloché pattern covers its surface, interrupted at regular intervals by polished facets that catch the light differently. The contrast between the matte fluting and the mirror polish shifts with the slightest movement of the wrist.
The silvered dial features three applied Arabic numerals — 12, 6 and 9 — and baton markers at the other hours. Below twelve o'clock, the Zenith star and signature, then the Sporto mention in cursive script. At three o'clock, a framed date window. Over time, the silver background has developed dense, irregular dark speckling across its surface, giving this dial a texture that no other example will reproduce.
The movement is a Zenith automatic, caliber 2542PC: 25 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour, 46-hour power reserve. It was serviced in September 2026 by our watchmakers and carries a 1-year guarantee.

- Overall condition : The silvered dial shows pronounced patina: dark speckling covers the entire surface, denser in the lower left part, and the printed mention at the bottom of the dial is therefore partially obscured. The applied numerals, markers and hands are intact. The steel case and fluted bezel show surface scratches from wear. Crystal plexiglass in good condition (8/10).

Frequently asked questions
How do you set the date on calibre 2542PC?
There is no quickset on this movement. The date is changed by turning the hands: you advance the time until passing midnight, as many times as needed for the number of days. The operation is done between 7:30pm and midnight on the dial, never during the date change, so as not to force the mechanism.
What is the patina of a dial?
It is the slow transformation of the dial's lacquer and metal layers under the effect of humidity, light and time. It produces textures and shades that vary from one example to another. On this piece it is pronounced, and the Overall condition bullet gives the details, supported by photographs.
What do we know about the Zenith calibre 2542PC?
It is a manufacture automatic movement used by Zenith from the 1960s onwards: 25 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour, 46-hour power reserve, 25.6mm in diameter, centre seconds and date window. It equips several series from the house, including the Sporto.
Is a service crown a problem?
No for use: it winds and sets the watch normally. It is simply not the one fitted at the factory, which matters to a collector attached to the integrity of the components, and is listed as such in the technical specifications.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or large wrist?
With a 35mm diameter, 44.5mm Lug-to-lug and 12mm thickness, it suits wrists of around 16 to 19cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its long lugs give it more presence on the wrist than a 35mm with short lugs.
