Seiko Two-tone Dolce: the Japanese dress watch in carrée shape with mirror-polished steel and gilt dial
This Seiko watch belongs to the Dolce line, the maison's high-end dress collection from Japan, and can be worn by both a man and a woman. It belongs to the great tradition of shape watches that made the golden age of dress watchmaking, those rectangular and square pieces worn in the city rather than for sport. Its carrée case with chamfered angles, in two-tone, combines a mirror-polished steel surround with gold plating. The case measures 25mm (27mm with the crown) for a Lug-to-lug of 34mm and a thickness of only 4.4mm, Crystal included. A piece of exceptional finesse, made to slip under a cuff.
The sunburst gilt dial radiates from the center of its polished steel surround, whose dark reflections create a strong and refined graphic contrast. The hour markers are fine applied gilt baton markers, double at 12 o'clock. The Seiko Quartz signature occupies the top of the dial, the Dolce name the bottom, in handwritten script. Two faceted gilt baton hands are sufficient for the display: no seconds hand, no date, only the essentials on this luminous background.
Inside beats the Seiko caliber 7730, an ultra-thin analog quartz movement with two hands, reserved for the brand's dress watches. It is this slim construction that allows the 4.4mm profile, remarkably thin. The movement of this example has been checked by our watchmaker and the battery replaced before shipping. Seiko has not published a precision specification for this caliber: we therefore make no numerical claim.
On the wrist, the piece embraces the de ville jewel approach. The polished steel surround, gilt frame and sunburst dial form a dress watch with a strong character, in the spirit of the great classic shape watches, here enhanced by a genuine crocodile leather strap in dark brown. This strap is not original; it is mounted on a steel pin buckle. The Lug width of 19mm leaves complete freedom to change it.

Is the Seiko 7730 calibre reliable?
Yes. The 7730 is an extra-thin two-hand analog quartz movement reserved for Seiko dress watches. Why is this watch so slim?

Is this Seiko Dolce 7730-5020 water-resistant?
No. Water resistance is never guaranteed on a vintage watch: the original seals have aged and the pressure of the case back is no longer what it was on day one. Avoid showers, swimming pools and the sea. A simple contact with rainwater, however, poses no difficulty.
Does a 25mm square case suit which wrist?
For a shaped watch, it is the Lug-to-lug that sets the standard: 34mm here, placing the piece on wrists of approximately 14 to 18cm. The extra-thin square format is the epitome of the dress watch: discreet on a masculine wrist, perfectly proportioned on a feminine wrist.
