A 1988 quartz Seiko with a clock dial, nicknamed Big Ben
The 25mm-wide gold-plated case measures 5.3mm thick. Its front is sculpted with raised neo-Gothic-inspired motifs: crenellated columns on the sides, rosettes in the four corners, around a round polished bezel. The smooth lugs hold the strap on a Lug width of 19mm. The steel caseback bears the piece's reference.
The white dial has a crackled effect that recalls old clock dials. Twelve black Roman numerals radiate across it, each extended by a cross, between two minute tracks; the design evokes the dial of the clock on the Westminster tower, hence the nickname Big Ben given to this model. Two openworked black hands, with spearhead tips, provide the reading; no seconds hand, no aperture.
Calibre 5P30 is a two-hand Japanese quartz movement. The serial number places production in July, with the year estimated as 1988.
The original gold-tone crown is set into the caseband at 3 o'clock. The watch is fitted on a green crocodile leather strap with Buckle buckle. At 33.5mm Lug-to-lug, it can be worn on a man's wrist as well as a woman's wrist.

Why is this Seiko nicknamed Big Ben?
Its dial takes up the design of the clock on the Westminster tower in London: intersecting Roman numerals, double minute track, spear hands. Big Ben is the nickname by which this reference is known; the dial bears only the signature Seiko. We do not attribute to this piece any history that we cannot verify.
The dial indicates 5P30-6170: is that the correct reference?
Yes. At Seiko, the code printed at the bottom of the dial is that of the dial itself. The watch reference is engraved on the caseback, here 5P30-6150: the first group designates the calibre, the second the case.
Is the crackled effect of the dial original?
Yes. It is part of the dial design and recalls the surface of antique clock dials.
Is this watch suitable for a woman's wrist?
