A 1987 Rolex Oysterdate Precision 6694, black and gold
Reference 6694 accompanied Rolex for nearly three decades, from the 1960s to the end of the 1980s. This 1987 piece belongs to its final series: a hand-wound Oysterdate, faithful to the Oyster case with screw-down caseback and crown.
Its glossy black dial features gold-tone baton markers and the gold-tone Rolex crown below 12 o'clock, above the Rolex Oysterdate signature; the Precision mention appears above 6 o'clock. The original gold-tone baton hands and the fine seconds hand stand out against this dark background, and the date at 3 o'clock appears under the Cyclops lens.
The steel Oyster case measures 34mm in diameter, 42.4mm Lug-to-lug and 11mm thick. The smooth polished bezel surrounds a domed acrylic Crystal; the screw-down crown, signed Rolex, is original.
The watch is powered by the hand-wound Rolex calibre 1225, with date and no quickset. The serial number dates it to 1987. It is fitted with its original steel Oyster bracelet, closed by a signed Buckle folding clasp with the crown motif.

The dial shows signs of restoration. The hands, crown and Oyster bracelet are original.
How is this watch dated?
By its serial number, engraved between the lugs, 98201••. Rolex serial tables, which remain estimates, place this number in 1987, among the last years of production of reference 6694.
How is the date set?
Calibre 1225 does not have a quickset function: the date advances by turning the hands past midnight. The screw-down crown must be unscrewed before daily winding, then screwed back down.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a 34mm diameter and 42.4mm Lug-to-lug, it suits wrists of around 15 to 18cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. The Oyster bracelet is adjusted for an 18cm wrist.
