Atelier Note

A matte black dial under the Oysterdate Precision signature, a 34mm steel Oyster case and its original Oyster bracelet. A 1970 hand-wound Rolex. Serviced, delivered with its Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate.

A 1970 Rolex Oysterdate Precision 6694, matte black dial

Rolex produced reference 6694 from the early 1960s to the late 1980s. The Oysterdate combines the brand's Oyster case, with screw-down caseback and crown, with a date window; where Oyster Perpetual models receive a rotor, it retains a hand-wound movement.

The matte black dial bears the applied Rolex crown and the Rolex Oysterdate signature below 12 o'clock, with the Precision mention above 6 o'clock. Applied baton markers and a dotted minute track mark its outer edge; the baton hands, filled with luminescent material, stand out against this dark background. The date window at 3 o'clock is read under the Cyclops magnifier of the Crystal.

The steel Oyster case measures 34mm in diameter, 42mm lug-to-lug and 11mm thick. Its smooth polished bezel frames a domed acrylic Crystal, and the screw-down crown signed Rolex sits at 3 o'clock. The caseback, also screw-down, is in smooth steel.

The watch is powered by the hand-wound Rolex calibre 1225, with date and no quickset correction. The serial number places its production around 1970. It is fitted on its original steel Rolex Oyster bracelet, reference 7835, closed by a Rolex-signed Buckle folding clasp with the crown.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Rolex Oysterdate Precision?
A Rolex watch with an Oyster case and date window, produced from the 1960s to the late 1980s under reference 6694. It differs from the brand's Oyster Perpetual models by its hand-wound movement: the Oysterdate never received an automatic calibre.

How is this watch dated?
By its serial number, engraved between the lugs, 24304••. Rolex serial tables, which remain estimates, place this number around 1970.

How is the date set?
Calibre 1225 does not have quickset: the date advances by turning the hands past midnight. For the screw-down crown, it is unscrewed before daily winding, then screwed back down.

Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a 34mm diameter and 42mm Lug-to-lug, it suits wrists of around 15 to 18cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. The Oyster bracelet is adjusted for an 18cm wrist size.

How do delivery and payment work?
The piece is shipped with tracking and insurance by a trusted carrier, to a collection point or to your home depending on the destination. Delivery is free. Payment by bank transfer benefits from a 3% discount.
