Atelier Note

A 6.5mm-thick Tank 18k white gold case, a white dial with Roman numerals and the Cellini signature. A Rolex from 1967, powered by an extra-thin hand-wound calibre. Serviced, delivered with its Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate.

A 1967 Rolex Cellini 3603, Tank in 18k white gold

In the late 1960s, Rolex brought together its gold dress watches under the name Cellini, in reference to Benvenuto Cellini, a 16th-century Florentine goldsmith and sculptor. The line breaks with the brand's tool watches: precious metal cases, hand-wound movements, dials reduced to the essentials.

The white dial bears twelve black Roman numerals, the Rolex crown and the words Rolex Genève below 12 o'clock, and the Cellini signature in cursive above 6 o'clock. Two black hands, for hours and minutes, stand out clearly against this light background. Dial and hands are original.

The Tank 18k white gold case, rectangular with straight brancards, measures 24mm wide, 34mm Lug-to-lug and 6.5mm thick; the gold hallmark is stamped on the case middle. The lugs hold the strap with a 17mm Lug width, and the signed Rolex crown sits at 3 o'clock.

The watch is powered by the Rolex 1600 calibre, an extra-thin hand-wound movement with 19 jewels, reserved for the Cellini line. The serial number dates its production to around 1967. It is fitted with a black crocodile-embossed leather strap.

Frequently asked questions

Why is it referred to as a Tank watch?
The term here refers to the silhouette of the piece: a rectangular case with straight brancards, commonly referred to in this way. It is a Rolex Cellini watch, reference 3603, with no connection to another house.

What is the Rolex Cellini line?
Cellini is Rolex's dress line, created at the end of the 1960s and named after Benvenuto Cellini, a Florentine Renaissance goldsmith. It brings together slim, hand-wound gold watches.

What is the Rolex calibre 1600?
An extra-flat hand-wound mechanical movement, about 2.3mm thick, with 19 jewels and 19,800 vibrations per hour. Rolex reserved it for the Cellini line; here it drives two hands, without centre seconds. A daily winding of a few turns of the crown is sufficient.

Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
At 24mm wide, 34mm Lug-to-lug and 6.5mm thick, it suits wrists of around 15 to 18cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. The 17mm Lug width allows the strap to be changed.

How do delivery and payment work?
The piece is shipped with tracking and insurance by a trusted carrier, to a collection point or home address depending on the destination. Delivery is free. Payment by bank transfer benefits from a 3% discount.
