Rolex's dress line, in 18-carat yellow gold
This Rolex watch is a Cellini, reference 5112, whose serial number dates production to 1989. The Cellini is the line Rolex kept apart from its Oyster range: it takes its name from Benvenuto Cellini, a Florentine goldsmith and sculptor of the sixteenth century, and exists only in precious metals. Where the Oysters are designed around water resistance, the Cellini abandons the screwed case and screw-down crown to gain in slenderness: it is a dress watch, fully embraced as such.
The result can be summed up in one figure: 5.6mm thick, Crystal included, for a round 32mm 18-carat yellow gold case, caseback included. The original crown, also in 18-carat gold, is wound by hand without needing to be unscrewed first. The lugs, short and tapered, bring the whole to 37.6mm Lug-to-lug — a watch that disappears beneath a cuff.
The golden sunburst dial is original. The rays radiate from the centre and shift the light with every movement of the wrist; above them, applied Arabic numerals in relief and, at twelve o'clock, the Rolex crown. The golden hands, original, match the dial base.
The movement is a hand-wound mechanical — a rarity at Rolex, a house that built its name on the automatic rotor patented in 1931 and retained hand-winding only on this line, for the slenderness it makes possible. It has been checked by our partner watchmakers and is guaranteed for one year.

- General condition: Excellent state of preservation. The original sunburst golden dial is crisp, its applied Arabic numerals and the crown at twelve o'clock are intact, and the hands show no alteration. The polished yellow gold case bears fine signs of wear on the bezel and lugs, visible in our photographs. Crystal rated 10/10.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Cellini line at Rolex?
The maison's dress line, kept apart from the Oyster range. Its name comes from Benvenuto Cellini, a 16th-century Florentine goldsmith and sculptor, and it has only ever existed in precious metals — gold and, on certain references, stones. It is the Rolex one wears with a shirt, where the Oysters were born for diving, aviation, or exploration.
Why is this Rolex not water-resistant?
By design, not through wear. Oyster water resistance relies on a screw-down caseback and a screw-down crown, two elements that take up space. The Cellini deliberately does without them in order to come down to 5.6mm thick — a measurement unattainable in an Oyster case. As with all our vintage pieces, we therefore do not guarantee any water resistance: keep away from water.
Is a hand-wound Rolex common?
No. Rolex patented the automatic winding rotor in 1931 and made it its signature: almost its entire production bears the Perpetual designation. Hand-winding survived almost exclusively on the Cellini, because a movement without an oscillating weight is flatter. That is the price, and the appeal, of this slenderness.
Can the strap be changed?
Yes. The Lug width measures 17mm, a size that is easily found from good strap makers. The brown crocodile leather currently fitted is later than the watch; the Buckle Rolex 18k gold pin buckle, however, is original and can be fitted to any replacement leather strap.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or large wrist?
With a 32mm diameter, 37.6mm Lug-to-lug, and 5.6mm thickness, it suits wrists from approximately 14.5 to 20cm — a guideline, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its slenderness matters as much as its diameter: a 5.6mm watch slips under a cuff without catching, which makes it more discreet than a round watch of the same size but twice as thick.

Each watch is inspected by our watchmakers before shipping. In case of a mechanism malfunction during the first year, we cover the repair.
Authenticity warranty — lifetime
If a watch turns out to be non-authentic, we will take it back and refund you in full. Without time limit.
