Revue Thommen vintage: a stepped case automatic watch

This Revue Thommen vintage watch is an elegant dress automatic, with a rectangular stepped case in steel and a deep black dial enhanced by a brushed blue central stripe. Signed by one of the oldest Swiss watch manufactures, it is powered by an in-house automatic movement. With its versatile proportions, it can be worn equally well on a man’s or a woman’s wrist. A Swiss piece with a strong, graphic aesthetic.

The black dial is crossed at its center by a vertical blue band with a sunburst brushed finish, catching the light and creating a striking contrast. Large white Roman numerals surround it, the Revue logo appears beneath 12 o’clock, and a date window is set at 3 o’clock, under the mention “Swiss Made”. Baton hands and a central seconds hand complete this crisp and elegant display. A dress-inspired dial with a pronounced graphic personality.

At the heart of this Revue Thommen beats the automatic caliber MSR H66, with 21 jewels. MSR — Manufactures d'Horlogerie Suisses Réunies — was the movement manufacture of the Revue Thommen group: a true Swiss manufacture movement, not a third-party ébauche. An automatic watch winds itself through the motion of the wrist, without a battery, perpetuating the mechanical tradition. Fully serviced, this caliber ensures reliable everyday performance.

The stepped case is the other signature of this watch: its flanks rise in successive tiers toward the bezel, an Art Deco heritage motif that lends depth, a beautiful play of light, and architectural character. With dimensions of 27.5mm by 37.6mm lug to lug, this vintage watch offers a restrained and elegant format, on the wrist of a man or a woman — a true Unisex watch. The Crystal acrylic crystal is rated 7/10 (fine traces of use, the acrylic can be polished by a watchmaker). It is fitted on a black lizard-style leather strap, non-original, with a steel Buckle buckle.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Revue Thommen house?
Revue Thommen is one of the oldest Swiss watch manufactures, based in Waldenburg. Renowned for its mechanical watches and aviation instruments, it long produced its own movements within the MSR group. It is a historic Swiss brand, prized by connoisseurs.

What is a stepped case middle?
The case middle refers to the side of the case, between the caseback and the bezel. On this watch, it is described as "stepped": its edges rise in successive tiers, like steps. Highly fashionable during the Art Deco era, this finishing adds depth and a beautiful play of light, lending the piece a graphic and architectural character.

Is the MSR H66 caliber a manufacture movement?
Yes. MSR (Manufactures d'Horlogerie Suisses Réunies) was the entity that produced the movements for the Revue Thommen group. The automatic MSR H66 caliber, with 21 jewels, is therefore a Swiss manufacture movement, not a ébauche sourced from a third party.

What is a "Tank" watch?
"Tank" designates a style of watch with a rectangular case, popularized by Cartier at the beginning of the 20th century; the term is now commonly used for this shape. This piece is not a Cartier: it is a Revue Thommen, a Swiss manufacture, which takes up its rectangular silhouette.

Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
It is a Unisex watch. Its 27.5mm rectangular case suits both a masculine and feminine wrist. Its black and blue Roman numeral dial and dress-watch format make it an elegant timepiece for all occasions.
