A deep blue in a jewel-like format

This Yves Saint Laurent watch, produced around 1990, is a feminine piece in a jewel-like format, with a 22mm two-tone round case. The bezel and case middle are in steel, while a golden surround frames the dial and extends into the bracelet. Two series of golden fluting, at three and nine o'clock, mark the junction between the case and the chain.

The dial is the focal point. Against a deep blue radial gradient, lighter at the center and darkening toward the periphery, twelve applied golden dots mark the hours. No markers, no numerals, no seconds hand: the YSL monogram beneath twelve is the only inscription. The surface is left bare, and that is what gives the color its depth.

The bracelet continues this jewelry logic. It alternates golden Y-links with narrower steel links, in a construction that has more in common with a jewelry chain than with a watch strap. The overall length measures 16cm and remains adjustable.

Yves Saint Laurent developed its watch lines from the 1980s onward, entrusting production to Japanese manufacturers while retaining control over the design. This piece is representative of that approach: the fashion house brings the monogram, the two-tone construction, and the chain work; the Japanese watchmaker, the reliability of the movement.

Three points to note

  • Blue gradient dial — lighter at the center and darkening toward the edge, left entirely bare except for twelve golden dots.
  • Y-link bracelet — an alternation of golden and steel elements that has more in common with a jewelry chain than with a watch strap.
  • 22mm jewel-like format — a scale that few brands still offer, supported by the renewed appeal of small women's watches.

Why choose a vintage fashion house watch?

Buying a vintage Yves Saint Laurent watch rather than a new model offers access to a fashion house design at a controlled budget. Vintage quartz watches from this period are also among the easiest to maintain on the pre-owned market: a battery change is all it takes to get them running again.

This piece occupies a precise place among vintage women's watches: its 22mm format and link bracelet place it firmly in the jewelry register, a segment that fashion houses explored with greater freedom than watch manufactures. Small vintage watches are now experiencing a marked resurgence.

Like all our pre-owned watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our watchmakers: verification of the movement, examination of the dial, hands, and case. Every vintage watch we offer comes with an invoice Atelier Victor serving as a certificate, a one-year warranty, and lifetime guaranteed authenticity.

Frequently asked questions

Is a dial without hour markers legible?
Yes, but readability relies on the twelve applied dots rather than raised hour markers or numerals. These golden dots catch the light and stand out clearly against the deep blue. It is a deliberate minimalist choice, common on watches from fashion houses, where the dial surface matters more than the number of markers.

Can the bracelet be adjusted?
It measures 16cm and remains adjustable by removing links with a watchmaker. We can take care of this before shipping if you let us know your wrist size. Please note that this is an integrated bracelet, designed for this specific case: it cannot be replaced with a standard strap with lugs.

Who made Yves Saint Laurent watches?
The house developed its watch lines from the 1980s onward, entrusting production to Japanese manufacturers while retaining control over the design. This is a common practice among fashion houses, which bring the artistic direction and monogram, while the watchmaker provides the movement and assembly.

How should a two-tone case be cared for?
A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for routine care. The golden parts are plated: the gold layer thins over time in areas exposed to friction, here mainly the bracelet links. Avoid abrasive products and household cleaners, which accelerate this wear without improving the appearance of the steel.

What wrist size is this watch suitable for?
With a 22mm case and a 16cm bracelet, this is a strictly feminine format, suited to slender wrists. The link bracelet wears supple and follows the wrist like a chain. It can be worn on its own or paired with other slim bracelets.
