Atelier Note
A gold-tone dial with black baton markers, a 23mm round gold-plated case with curved lugs. An 1980s quartz Universal Genève, on brown crocodile leather, delivered with its Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate.
A women's Universal Genève watch from the 1980s, gold-tone dial
Founded in 1894 in Le Locle and established in Genève in 1919, Universal Genève built its reputation on its chronographs and its Polerouter. In the 1970s and 1980s, the house also adopted quartz, and produced dress watches like this 546.764.
The gold-tone dial features twelve black baton markers and two black baton hands, hours and minutes. The house's U logo sits above the Universal Genève signature below 12 o'clock; the words Quartz and Swiss can be read above and at the bottom of 6 o'clock.
The round gold-plated case measures 23mm in diameter, 26mm lug-to-lug and 5mm thick. Its curved lugs follow the strap, the gold-tone crown is positioned at 3 o'clock, and the steel caseback bears the house signature and reference.
The watch is powered by a Swiss quartz movement. It is fitted with a brown crocodile leather strap, closed by a gold-tone pin buckle.

Frequently asked questions
Who is Universal Genève?
A Swiss watchmaking house founded in 1894 in Le Locle, established in Genève in 1919. It is known for its Compax chronographs and its Polerouter; in the 1970s and 1980s, it also produced quartz watches, including this dress watch.
What does the word Swiss below 6 o'clock mean?
It indicates a Swiss-made watch, including the movement. The dial also bears the word Quartz above 6 o'clock, and the house's U logo below 12 o'clock.
What maintenance does a quartz movement require?
A battery change approximately every two to three years, to be entrusted to a watchmaker to preserve the caseback gasket.
Is this watch suitable for a slim wrist?
With a 23mm diameter, 26mm Lug-to-lug, and 5mm thickness, it sits close to the wrist and slips under a cuff. These proportions suit wrists of approximately 13 to 17cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like.
