Seiko gold-plated: the Japanese dress watch with white dial, Arabic numerals, and minute track

This Seiko watch is a dress watch of mixed gender, suitable for both men and women, with remarkable understatement. Its round gold-plated case, with a slim bezel and tapered lugs, embodies a luminous and timeless classicism. It measures 34mm (35mm with the crown) for a Lug-to-lug of 40.5mm and a thickness of only 5.35mm. A remarkably slim piece, made to slip under a cuff.

The white lacquered dial offers perfect legibility. Twelve black Arabic numerals circle it, doubled by a printed numbered minute track around the periphery, marked every five minutes — a detail that gives the watch an unexpected technical and vintage allure on a dress piece. The SEIKO and QUARTZ signatures occupy the upper center. Two slender blackened baton hands and a matching seconds hand sweep across the whole, in the purest spirit of the classic watch.

At its heart beats the Seiko 7N00 caliber, a three-hand quartz movement renowned for its reliability and longevity. In practice, maintenance is limited to a battery change by any watchmaker. The movement of this example has been checked by our watchmaker and the battery replaced before shipping. It is the choice of simplicity and precision, without the need for winding.

On the wrist, the piece embraces a luminous classic character. The warm gold plating and white dial create a clean, elegant ensemble, highlighted here by a black genuine crocodile leather strap. This strap is not original; it is mounted on a Buckle steel. The Lug width of 18mm leaves the choice of replacement straps open.

Three points to note

  • The numbered minute track around the periphery gives this dress dial a technical and vintage allure, while making it perfectly legible.
  • The extra-thin 5.35mm case is one of the piece’s assets: a rare slenderness that slips under every cuff.
  • The case is gold-plated, not solid: it shows fine signs of wear, noted with complete transparency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Seiko 7N00 calibre reliable?
Yes. The 7N00 is one of the most widespread three-hand quartz movements from Seiko, renowned for its reliability and longevity. Maintenance is very straightforward: a battery replacement by any watchmaker is all that is needed. The movement of this example has been checked by our watchmaker and is covered by a 1-year warranty.

What is the purpose of the numbered minute track on the dial?
This peripheral scale, numbered in fives, allows precise reading of the minutes and seconds, in the manner of technical or military-inspired watches. On this dress piece, it adds a vintage character and enhanced legibility, while elegantly structuring the white dial.

Is the case made of solid gold?
No: it is a gold-plated case with a steel back, a common construction on Seiko dress watches. The plating brings the warmth and brilliance of gold at a fraction of the price. This piece shows fine signs of wear on its plating, noted with complete transparency.

Is this Seiko water-resistant?
No. Water resistance is never guaranteed on a vintage watch: the original seals have aged and the pressure resistance of the case back is no longer what it once was. Avoid the shower, the pool, and the sea. However, simple contact with rainwater does not pose any difficulty.

Is a 34mm case suitable for which wrist?
With a 34mm diameter and a 40.5mm Lug-to-lug, this is a versatile dress format: ideally worn on a slim to medium wrist, where it appears perfectly proportioned, and discreet under a cuff thanks to its 5.35mm thickness. That said, a watch is also a matter of style: depending on taste and the desired look, this piece can be worn equally well by a man or a woman, on all sorts of wrists. Size is only a reference point, never a rule.
