The dressy allure of a midnight blue dial

This Seiko adopts a dress watch silhouette, carried by a brushed and polished steel Tank case. Its clean rectangular form, taller than it is wide, belongs to the tradition of the most elegant dress watches. The midnight blue dial, with its finely grained texture, brings a subtle depth that reveals itself with the play of light. A sober and refined piece, designed as much for formal wear as for everyday use.

The midnight blue dial is the heart of this piece. Its grained finish gently catches the light, while the applied baton indexes, faceted and luminous, stand out clearly against the dark background. The inscription “Seiko Quartz” and a discreet emblem at 6 o’clock complete the pared-back composition. The steel baton hands ensure clear legibility, in a minimalist spirit.

Under the Crystal mineral crystal beats a Japanese quartz movement Seiko, the caliber 7830, renowned for its extreme slenderness — a feat for the era. This thinness allows the case to retain an elegant profile, ideal for a dress watch. Reliable and precise, the movement drives the hours, minutes, and seconds with the simplicity of a battery-powered caliber.

With its 27.5mm-wide case and its Lug width 19mm, this Seiko offers a measured format, comfortable on a wide variety of wrists, both feminine and masculine. The original midnight blue dial is very well preserved, with the indexes and hands intact. The brushed steel shows a few light signs of wear, consistent with the age of the piece. The black croc-style leather strap, recently fitted, completes the set; its Buckle pin buckle is not original.

Three points to note

  • Case Tank in steel, original textured midnight blue dial, refined and minimalist dress style.
  • Seiko quartz movement, ultra-thin caliber 7830 (a feat of quartz horology).
  • Dial and hands very well preserved; fine signs of wear on the steel, disclosed without reserve.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the "Tank" shape used to describe this type watch?
The "Tank" shape refers to a rectangular case with clean, straight lines, popularized by Cartier, whose Tank is a registered design said to have been inspired by the tanks of the First World War. The term is now widely used to describe this elegant rectangular silhouette. This Seiko is not a Cartier, but it echoes that rectangular spirit in a discreet and accessible Japanese interpretation.

Is the dial blue or black?
The dial is a deep midnight blue with a finely grained texture. Depending on the light, it can appear almost black, then reveal its bluish reflections under direct illumination. This dark, shifting hue is part of the piece's charm and pairs well with a wide variety of outfits.

What is the Seiko calibre 7830?
The 7830 is an analog quartz Seiko movement, launched in the late 1970s and renowned for its exceptional slimness. It notably equipped the brand's slim dress watches. Reliable and precise, it only requires periodic battery replacement, to be entrusted to a watchmaker, making it an easy movement to live with every day.

Is the case made of steel?
Yes, the case is made of stainless steel, brushed and polished. Unlike gold-plated models, there is no risk of plating wear: steel retains its appearance over time and can be repolished if necessary. Here, there are a few fine signs of wear, consistent with the age of the piece and disclosed with complete transparency.

Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
It is a Unisex piece. Its 27.5 mm wide rectangular case offers a balanced size, equally comfortable on a men's or women's wrist. Its dress-watch form and clean midnight-blue dial make it an elegant watch, both by day and in the evening.

What is the international delivery time?
Dispatch within 48 hours, international delivery within 3 to 5 days, insurance included.
