Seiko tank-shaped — A Japanese dress watch inspired by Art Deco

This vintage Seiko watch embodies Japanese watchmaking savoir-faire in its most refined expression. Produced in 1981, it takes up the codes of the tank-shaped watch — rectangular case with chamfered sides, screw-down bezel, railroad dial — in an execution that rivals the great Swiss maisons for a far more accessible budget.

Its white lacquered dial is a small Art Deco masterpiece: elegant black Roman numerals, double peripheral railroad track, Seiko Quartz signature and small seconds at 6 o’clock in a graduated subdial. The blued baton hands bring the touch of color that makes all the difference on this dial, in the tradition of great European dress watches.

The rectangular steel case is enhanced by an inner gold-plated bezel with 4 exposed gold screws, creating a refined two-tone contrast. The gold-plated crown at 3 o’clock completes the ensemble. Driven by the Seiko 2628 caliber with Japanese quartz and small seconds, this piece offers reliable precision and minimal maintenance.

Mounted on a handmade black crocodile-style leather strap, this vintage Seiko watch appeals as much to dress watch enthusiasts as to collectors seeking a clever alternative to classic Swiss pieces. A perfectly balanced Unisex format, comfortable on the wrist of both men and women. Selected piece, authenticated and serviced by Atelier Victor. Fast and secure international shipping.

  • Seiko 2628 Japanese quartz caliber with small seconds: reliable precision, minimal maintenance, everyday dressed elegance.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is a tank-shaped watch?
The tank shape refers to an elongated rectangular case, popularized by Cartier in 1917. The term has become a generic descriptor for this silhouette — all the great maisons (and Seiko here) have produced rectangular watches in the tank shape. This Seiko is a refined Japanese interpretation with faceted sides.
  • What is calibre Seiko 2628?
Calibre 2628 is a Japanese quartz movement by Seiko from the 1980s, fitted with a small seconds subdial — an uncommon configuration on quartz watches of the era, which echoes the aesthetics of dress watches and lends them a more traditional character.
  • Why does a Seiko resemble a Swiss watch?
Seiko has long offered models inspired by classic European watchmaking codes (Cocktail, small-seconds dress watches, tank-shaped watches), at very accessible prices. These vintage pieces offer the elegance of a Swiss dress watch with the legendary reliability of Japanese watchmaking.
  • Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
With its rectangular case measuring 26mm wide (35mm long), this is a perfectly proportioned Unisex piece for all wrists — elegant for both women and men.
  • What is the international delivery time?
Shipment within 48 hours, worldwide delivery in 3 to 5 days via DHL Express, insurance included.
