Atelier Note

A Tank gold-plated case 4.7mm thick, a champagne dial with gold-tone markers and two hands. A Seiko from November 1980, on black crocodile leather. Checked, delivered with its Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate.

A 1980 Seiko Tank, extra-flat and gold-plated

The Tank gold-plated case measures 27mm wide, 34mm Lug-to-lug, and only 4.7mm thick. Its straight brancards frame the dial and hold the strap on a 21mm Lug width, almost as wide as the case. The gold-plated crown sits at 3 o'clock; the caseback is steel.

The champagne dial features applied gold-tone baton markers, doubled at 12 o'clock, the Seiko Quartz signature below 12 o'clock, and an emblem above 6 o'clock. Two gold-tone hands, hours and minutes, are enough for legibility. Dial and hands are original.

The watch is powered by the Seiko 6020 calibre, a two-hand quartz movement with 8 jewels. It is this that allows for such a thin case. The serial number engraved on the caseback dates its production to November 1980.

It is fitted with a black crocodile leather strap, fastened by a gold-tone pin buckle. With a width of 27mm and a thickness of 4.7mm, it slips under a cuff and can be worn on a man's wrist as well as a feminine wrist.

Three points to note

01

4.7mm thick — An extra-flat Tank case, enabled by the 6020 quartz calibre.

02

Champagne dial — Applied gold-tone markers and two gold-tone hands.

03

Black crocodile — Leather with a pronounced grain on a 21mm Lug width.

Frequently asked questions

Why is it referred to as a Tank watch?
The term here refers to the silhouette of the piece: a rectangular case with straight brancards, as it is commonly known. It is a Seiko watch, reference 6020-5460, with no connection to another house.

Why does the watch not have a seconds hand?
The Seiko 6020 calibre is a two-hand quartz movement, with hours and minutes. Without a seconds hand, the movement remains flat, hence the 4.7mm case thickness, and the dial retains a clean display.

How is this watch dated?
By its serial number, engraved on the caseback. At Seiko, the first digit indicates the year within the decade and the following sign the month, N for November: 0N•••• corresponds here to November 1980.

Is the strap original?
No. The black crocodile leather strap and its gold-tone pin buckle were fitted as replacements; the Lug width of 21mm allows the strap to be changed. The dial, hands and crown are original.

How do delivery and payment work?
The piece is shipped with tracking and insurance by a trusted carrier, to a collection point or home delivery depending on the destination. Delivery is free.
