Seiko vintage — Case polished steel and black lacquered dial

This Seiko vintage watch, produced in 1980, captivates with its rectangular cut-corner design — an elongated octagonal silhouette typical of the modern Art Deco aesthetic, then very much in vogue in Japanese watchmaking. Rarer today than classic round or tank shapes, this singular geometry brings a strong presence to the wrist without excessive size.

The mirror-polished steel case catches the light like a true jewel — a gleaming reflective finish that contrasts beautifully with the deep black dial. The four 45° cut corners at the angles structure the silhouette and immediately set it apart from a classic rectangular watch. With its ultra-thin profile of just 5.8mm, the piece slips under a cuff with disarming ease.

The glossy black lacquered dial is the stage for a minimalist, dressy composition. The raised applied silver baton hour markers are arranged all around the dial, with a more pronounced solid 12 o'clock marker in a filled rectangle. The white SEIKO QUARTZ signature at 12 o'clock and the « lightning » Seiko Quartz logo at 6 o'clock — an authenticity marker of Seiko quartz models from the late 1970s and 1980s — complete a clear, refined reading. The slim silver baton hands and silver seconds hand add the necessary horological touch without cluttering the dial.

Powered by an ultra-thin Japanese quartz movement renowned for its reliability, this piece combines modern practicality with vintage elegance. Mounted on a black crocodile leather strap, this Seiko dress watch is an ideal evening piece: black lacquer + polished steel + black strap = three codes of horological elegance brought together. Format Unisex. Selected, authenticated and serviced by Atelier Victor. Fast and secure international shipping.

Three points to note about this piece

  • Case mirror-polished steel in a rectangular cut-corner shape (elongated octagon): modern Art Deco geometry typical of the 1980s.
  • Glossy black lacquered dial with applied silver baton hour markers and a Seiko Quartz lightning logo at 6 o'clock: an authentic signature of the era.
  • Case ultra-thin at 5.8mm: exceptional slenderness, ideal for a dress watch for evening wear that slips under a cuff.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is a watch with cut corners?
A watch with cut corners (sometimes called “octagonal”) is a rectangular case whose four corners have been cut at 45°, creating an eight-sided silhouette. This geometry was very fashionable in the 1970s-80s and lends a pronounced presence on the wrist, more structured than a classic rectangular case.
  • What does the lightning logo on the dial mean?
The small stylized lightning-shaped logo present at 6 o'clock on the dial is the official marker of Seiko quartz models from the 1970s-80s. It is the equivalent of the “SQ” logo found on other Seiko Quartz series of the era — a mark of authenticity and a detail prized by collectors.
  • Is a vintage quartz watch reliable?
Yes. Japanese Seiko quartz movements from the 1980s are recognized for their reliability and precision. Maintenance is limited to battery replacement every 2 to 3 years. Every watch sold by Atelier Victor is checked by our watchmakers and guaranteed for one year.
  • Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
With its rectangular cut-corner silhouette and dressed black dial, this is a decidedly Unisex piece — elegant on the wrist of both men and women. The modern Art Deco design works particularly well for evening wear.
  • What is the international delivery time?
Shipping within 48 hours, worldwide delivery in 3 to 5 days via DHL Express, insurance included.
