A 1975 Seiko quartz in a cushion case, grey-green dial
This Seiko watch bears the reference 4130-5130 and dates from 1975. It is a Japanese quartz from the mid-1970s, whose steel cushion-shaped case measures 30.5mm wide and 8mm thick.
The case plays on two finishes: the upper surface and the bezel are brushed in parallel lines, while the sides and lugs remain polished. The middle case extends into two very wide integrated lugs, which bring the watch to 37mm from top to bottom and give it a Lug width of 19mm. The fluted crown is set at three o'clock, flush with the case.
The grey-green dial has a tight-grain finish, a muted tone that shifts towards green or slate depending on the light. Twelve applied polished baton markers mark the hours, with the one at twelve doubled. Below twelve, the SEIKO signature followed by the word QUARTZ; at six o'clock, the small period Seiko Quartz emblem. At the bottom of the dial, the factory marking JAPAN 4130-5131 T.
The hands for the hours and minutes are in polished steel, long and tapered, complemented by a thin centre seconds hand. The quartz movement, calibre Seiko 4130, has been checked by our watchmakers, fitted with a new battery, and carries a 1-year guarantee.

Frequently asked questions
What does reference 4130-5130 mean?
Seiko references are read in two parts: the first, here 4130, designates the movement calibre; the second, 5130, the case code, engraved on the caseback. The dial bears a distinct code, here 5131, which identifies the dial alone. The caseback takes precedence over the dial when establishing the reference of a piece.
From what period do the Seiko quartz watches with calibre 4130 date?
The 4130 is found in Seiko from the mid-1970s: examples dated 1974, 1975 and 1976 can be found, notably in the Chariot series. The serial number of this piece indicates a year ending in 5, which places its production in 1975, consistent with the period of use of the calibre.
How does a 30.5mm cushion case wear?
Width alone does not tell the whole story: this case measures 30.5mm from side to side but 37mm from top to bottom, and its integrated lugs visually extend the case. It therefore takes up more space than a round watch of the same measurement, and suits wrists of approximately 15 to 18cm — a guide, never a rule.
Can a 1970s quartz Seiko still be serviced?
Battery replacement and movement cleaning can be carried out without difficulty. Original electronic components, however, are no longer manufactured: for this type type of calibre, it is better to turn to a watchmaker accustomed to vintage quartz watches, who works with donor parts when a coil or circuit needs to be replaced.
What strap for a Lug width with 19mm lug width?
19mm is an odd measurement, less common than 18 or 20: it exists from most leather makers but takes some searching. A 20mm will not fit, and an 18mm leaves a visible gap on each side. The watch is delivered on a black crocodile-embossed leather strap already fitted in the correct size.
