Seiko Quartz vintage: an ultra-thin cushion watch with a midnight blue dial

This vintage Seiko Quartz watch is an elegant dress piece with a steel cushion case, slim and understated, featuring a superb midnight blue dial. From the first generations of Seiko quartz from the late 1970s, it is distinguished by its soft silhouette and ultra-thin profile. With its versatile proportions, it wears equally well on a man’s or a woman’s wrist. A restrained and refined Japanese watch, ideal for everyday wear as well as for evening occasions.

The midnight blue dial is enhanced by a fine dotted texture that gently catches the light, highlighting applied baton indexes and the "Seiko Quartz" signature. Slender faceted hands and a fine central seconds hand sweep across the whole, for a clear and deep reading. A dress dial with undeniable charm, typical of Japanese watchmaking style from the late 1970s.

This Seiko is powered by the Quartz calibre 7830, launched in 1977 and renowned for its great slenderness — an ultra-thin movement far ahead of its time. It notably equipped the "Chariot" line, prized for its sleek dress watches. Battery-powered, it carries forward Seiko's heritage as a quartz pioneer with the 1969 Astron. A controlled movement, ensuring precise everyday operation.

With its 30 mm case and very slim profile (6.7 mm), as well as its cushion shape, this vintage watch offers an elegant and versatile size, on the wrist of a man or a woman — a true Unisex watch. The original dial and hands are in good condition; the acrylic Crystal is rated 7/10 (fine signs of use, and the acrylic can be polished by a watchmaker). It is delivered on a handmade crocodile leather strap, non-original, with a steel pin Buckle.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the caliber of this Seiko Quartz?
It is equipped with the Seiko 7830 quartz caliber, launched in 1977. Renowned for its great finesse, this extra-thin movement notably powered the “Chariot” line. Battery-operated, it ensures precise everyday timekeeping without mechanical maintenance.

    What is a cushion-shaped case?
The cushion shape (“cushion”) refers to a square case with rounded corners, evoking the silhouette of a cushion. Very fashionable in the 1970s, it adds softness and character to the wrist while retaining a dressy appearance.

    Is this Seiko watch vintage?
Yes, fully so. Dated 1979, it is well beyond the thirty-year threshold generally used for the term “vintage”. It is an authentic Seiko vintage watch, a witness to the beginnings of the Japanese quartz era.

    Is the dial really blue?
Yes. The dial features a deep midnight blue, enlivened by a fine dotted texture. Depending on the light, it can appear almost black, then reveal its bluish reflections — a detail greatly appreciated by vintage dial enthusiasts.

Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
It is a Unisex watch. Its 30 mm cushion case suits both a masculine and feminine wrist. Its midnight blue dial and dressy proportions make it an elegant watch for all occasions.
