Seiko Quartz vintage: a two-tone Tank watch with Roman numerals

This vintage Seiko Quartz watch is an elegant dress piece with a rectangular two-tone case, combining steel and gold-plated finish, and a white dial with Roman numerals. Slim and refined, it takes up the timeless Tank silhouette so prized by lovers of dress watches. With its versatile proportions, it can be worn equally well on a man’s or a woman’s wrist. A discreet and distinguished Japanese watch, ideal for everyday wear as well as evening occasions.

The white dial showcases classic black Roman numerals all around its periphery, along with the Seiko signature at 12 o’clock. A slim gold-tone seconds hand sweeps across the dial, echoing the gold-plated accents of the case, while the dark hands ensure clear, high-contrast legibility. A luminous, dressy dial in the great tradition of elegant Japanese watches.

This Seiko is powered by the 5P31 quartz calibre, an analog movement renowned for its reliability, which equipped many dress Seiko watches from the late 1980s onward. Battery-powered, it carries forward Seiko's legacy as a quartz pioneer with the 1969 Astron. A regulated movement, ensuring precise everyday performance.

With its 24.3mm case and very slim profile (5.9mm), and its two-tone rectangular shape, this vintage watch offers an elegant and versatile size on the wrist of a man or a woman — a true Unisex watch. The original dial and hands are in beautiful condition, as is the mineral Crystal (8/10). It comes on a handmade leather strap, non-original, with a steel Buckle.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is a "Tank" watch?
"Tank" refers to a watch style with a rectangular case, popularized by Cartier in the early 20th century; the term is now commonly used for this shape. This piece is not a Cartier: it is a Seiko, a Japanese manufacture, which takes up the rectangular silhouette.

What is the caliber of this Seiko Quartz?
It is fitted with the Seiko 5P31 quartz caliber, an analog movement introduced by Seiko in the late 1980s. Reliable and precise, it equipped many Seiko dress watches in the "Tank" format throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

    Is the case solid gold?
No. It is a two-tone case combining steel and gold plating: the gilt elements are gold-plated, on a steel base. It is a typical dress finish of elegant watches from that era, offering the brilliance of gold with the robustness of steel.

    Is this Seiko watch vintage?
Yes, absolutely. Dated from the late 1980s, it is approaching forty years old. It is an authentic vintage Seiko watch, a witness to Japanese savoir-faire in quartz dress watches.

Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
It is a Unisex watch. Its slim rectangular case suits both a masculine and feminine wrist. Its white dial with Roman numerals and dress size make it an elegant watch for all occasions.
