Seiko Vintage Quartz: a dress watch in Tank format in steel

This vintage Seiko Quartz watch is an elegant dress piece with a slim, refined rectangular steel case and a bright silver dial. From the first generations of Seiko quartz watches of the 1970s, it captivates with its timeless Tank silhouette and great finesse. With its versatile proportions, it is worn just as well on a man's wrist as on a woman's. A sober and refined Japanese watch, ideal for everyday wear as well as evenings out.

The silver dial with a sandblasted finish highlights fine applied baton indexes, punctuated by a discreet blue marker at 12 o'clock. At the center are the "Seiko Quartz" signature and the SQ emblem, while two slender hands sweep across the whole in the purest spirit of dress watches. A clear, restrained, and luminous display, typical of late-1970s Japanese watchmaking style.

This Seiko is powered by the quartz caliber 4130, from the "41" family by Suwa Seikosha, one of the first quartz movement lines produced in series by Seiko. Originally reserved for high-end models, this slim and reliable caliber runs on a battery and carries on Seiko's legacy as a quartz pioneer with the 1969 Astron. A controlled movement, the guarantee of precise daily operation.

With its 28mm case and very slim profile (8.2mm), as well as its rectangular shape, this vintage watch offers an elegant and versatile format on the wrist of both men and women — a true Unisex watch. The original dial and hands are in beautiful condition, as is the mineral Crystal (8/10). It is fitted with a handmade leather strap, not original, with a steel Buckle.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is a « Tank » watch?
« Tank » refers to a watch style with a rectangular case, popularized by Cartier at the beginning of the 20th century; today, the term is commonly used for this shape. This piece is not a Cartier: it is a Seiko, a Japanese manufacture, which adopts the same rectangular silhouette.

What is the caliber of this Seiko Quartz?
It is fitted with the Seiko quartz caliber 4130, from the « 41 » family developed by Suwa Seikosha in the 1970s. It was one of the first quartz movement lines produced on a large scale by Seiko, originally reserved for the most carefully finished models.

    Is this Seiko watch vintage?
Yes, absolutely. Dated from the late 1970s, it is well beyond the thirty-year threshold generally used for the term « vintage ». It is an authentic vintage Seiko watch, a witness to the beginnings of the Japanese quartz era.

Does this watch have a seconds hand?
No. Like many ultra-thin dress watches of that period, it displays only the hours and minutes, without a seconds hand. This choice contributes to the slenderness and the pared-back elegance of the dial.

Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
It is a Unisex watch. Its slim rectangular case suits both a masculine and a feminine wrist. Its silver dial and dress-watch format make it an elegant watch for all occasions.
