Seiko Lord Quartz Vintage: a high-end steel watch with a blue dial

This Vintage Seiko Lord Quartz watch is a prestigious dress piece with a round steel case and a deep navy blue dial with a fine grained texture. From the rare Lord Quartz line — produced only from 1978 to 1980 and, at its launch, more expensive than certain King Quartz models — it captivates with its precision and refined finishing. With its versatile size, it can be worn equally well on a man's or a woman's wrist. A refined Japanese watch, sought after by collectors.

The blue dial, with its delicate grained texture that subtly catches the light, highlights applied faceted baton indexes, a Roman numeral XII, the “Seiko Lord Quartz” signatures and the emblem. At 3 o'clock, the day-date window displays the day in Japanese ideograms (kanji) or in English. Fine faceted hands and a sweeping seconds hand glide over the whole for clear, luminous legibility. A sober, deep dial of great elegance.

This Seiko is powered by the quartz caliber 8243, a remarkable high-end movement: originally announced at approximately ±10 seconds per month — on par with the King Quartz — with an estimated battery life of around 5 years and a bilingual day-date. On a piece of this age, the actual precision may now vary depending on the condition of the movement. It carries forward the legacy of Seiko, the pioneer of quartz with the Astron in 1969.

With its 33mm case in steel, fitted to its original integrated steel bracelet, this vintage watch offers a versatile size that is perfectly of its era, on the wrist of a man or a woman — a true Unisex watch. The whole is in very good condition; the mineral Crystal, probably polished, is in very good condition. The original steel bracelet is adjustable (length ~20cm).

Three points to note

    Frequently asked questions

What is the Seiko Lord Quartz?
The Lord Quartz is a range of high-end quartz dress watches produced by Seiko only from 1978 to 1980. Although catalogued under the King Quartz line, it was more expensive than some King Quartz models. Its limited production over three years makes it a rare and sought-after collector's piece, more discreet than the King and Grand Quartz.

    Is the 8243 calibre accurate?
Yes, particularly. The 8243 was originally announced with an accuracy of around ±10 seconds per month — on par with the King Quartz — and a battery life of approximately 5 years. On a piece of this age, actual accuracy may vary depending on the condition of the movement and any regulation.

How does the bilingual day-date work?
The aperture at 3 o'clock displays the date as well as the day of the week, which can be set in Japanese ideograms (kanji) or in English. This is an authentic feature of models originally intended for the Japanese market (JDM), uncommon in Europe.

    Is this Seiko watch vintage?
Yes, fully so. Dated 1979, it is well beyond the generally accepted thirty-year threshold for the term « vintage ». It is an authentic vintage Seiko Lord Quartz watch, a witness to the golden age of high-end Japanese quartz.

Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
It is a Unisex watch. Its 33mm case suits both masculine and feminine wrists. Its navy blue dial and dress-watch format make it an elegant and versatile watch, for everyday wear as well as evening wear.
