Seiko Lord Quartz vintage: a high-end watch with a rare teal dial

This Vintage Seiko Lord Quartz Watch is a prestigious dress piece with a steel cushion case and a superb grained teal blue-green dial. From the rare Lord Quartz range — produced only from 1978 to 1980 and, at launch, more expensive than certain King Quartz models — it captivates with its precision and refined finishing. With its versatile size, it sits equally well on the wrist of a man or a woman. A refined Japanese watch, sought after by collectors.

The teal blue-green dial (teal), deep and nuanced, is animated by a fine grained, speckled texture that catches the light beautifully — a rare and particularly elegant hue. It highlights applied faceted baton indexes, the « Seiko Lord Quartz » signatures and the emblem. At 3 o'clock, the day-date window displays the day in Japanese ideograms (kanji) or in English. Slim faceted hands and a sweeping seconds hand glide over the dial for crisp, luminous legibility. A spectacular dial of remarkable depth.

This Seiko is powered by the 8243 quartz calibre, a remarkable high-end movement: originally rated at approximately ±10 seconds per month — on par with King Quartz — with a battery life of around 5 years and a bilingual day-date. On a piece of this age, actual precision may now vary depending on the condition of the movement. It carries forward Seiko's heritage, a quartz pioneer with the 1969 Astron.

With its 33mm case in a steel cushion shape, fitted to its original integrated steel bracelet, this vintage watch offers a versatile format perfectly of its era, on the wrist of both men and women — a true unisex watch. The whole piece is in very good condition; the mineral Crystal, probably polished, is in good condition. The original steel bracelet is adjustable (length approx. 20cm).

    Frequently asked questions

What is the Seiko Lord Quartz?
The Lord Quartz is a range of high-end quartz dress watches, produced by Seiko only from 1978 to 1980. Although catalogued under the King Quartz line, it was more expensive than certain King Quartz models. Its limited three-year production makes it a rare and sought-after collector's piece, more discreet than the King and Grand Quartz models.

    Is the 8243 caliber precise?
Yes, particularly so. The 8243 was originally stated to have a precision of around ±10 seconds per month — on par with King Quartz — with a battery life of about 5 years. On a watch of this age, actual accuracy may vary depending on the condition of the movement and any adjustment.

How does the bilingual day-date function work?
The 3 o'clock window displays the date as well as the day of the week, which can be set in Japanese ideograms (kanji) or in English. This is an authentic feature of models originally intended for the Japanese market (JDM), uncommon in Europe.

    Is this Seiko watch vintage?
Yes, absolutely. Dated 1979, it is well beyond the thirty-year threshold generally used for the term « vintage ». It is an authentic vintage Seiko Lord Quartz watch, a witness to the golden age of high-end Japanese quartz.

Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
It is a Unisex watch. Its 33mm cushion case suits both a masculine and a feminine wrist. Its rare duck dial and dress format make it an elegant and versatile watch, for everyday wear as well as evening occasions.
