Seiko Lord Quartz: a high-end Japanese vintage watch

This vintage Seiko watch belongs to the Lord Quartz line, one of the manufacture’s most prestigious quartz ranges in the late 1970s. Its round steel case, with a bold black dial, wears equally well on the wrist of a man or a woman. Positioned just below the King Quartz and Grand Quartz, the Lord Quartz was a high-end model — a sought-after antique watch, both understated and refined.

The finely textured black dial showcases applied baton indexes and a discreet « Seiko Lord Quartz » signature, topped by the Seiko emblem at 6 o’clock. At 3 o’clock, a day-date window displays the date and day in bilingual form — in kanji or in English — a hallmark of Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) models. Slim luminous baton hands complete a clear reading of the hours, minutes, and seconds.

At the heart of this Seiko watch beats the calibre 7853, a Japanese quartz movement equipped with quick-set day and date adjustment. Produced only between 1978 and 1980, it powered the upper end of Seiko’s quartz range and remains renowned for its precision. A quartz watch offers greater accuracy than most mechanical watches: a simple battery is enough to power it for years, without mechanical servicing.

With its 34mm-wide case and original integrated steel bracelet, this vintage watch wears equally well on the wrist of a man or a woman — a true Unisex watch, equally at ease in everyday wear or in a more dressy setting. The original black dial and the Crystal crystal are in very fine condition. The bracelet is adjustable up to approximately 21cm.

What is the Seiko Lord Quartz line?
Lord Quartz is an upmarket range launched by Seiko in 1978, positioned just below the King Quartz and Grand Quartz.
