A vintage Seiko Dolce watch from the 1980s, gold-plated with a gold-tone dial
This vintage Seiko watch belongs to the Dolce line, which Seiko reserves for its finest dress watches. This one bears the reference 6030-5560: gold-plated octagonal case, gold-tone dial, centre seconds, and nothing else. Its serial number dates it to 1982.
The gold-tone dial is original, satin-finished with a fine grain that reflects the light in a sheet rather than in flashes. The applied baton markers mark the hours, doubled by a printed railway minute track for the minutes. Below twelve, the SEIKO QUARTZ signature; above six, the Dolce inscription in cursive. The gold-tone baton hands are accompanied by an extremely fine centre seconds hand.
The gold-plated case measures 29mm in width for 34mm lug-to-lug Lug-to-lug and 5.1mm thick. Its shape is a chamfered octagon, whose four corners are faceted and brightly polished while the sides remain straight — a geometry that changes its outline with each movement of the wrist. The gold-plated crown is original, set flush with the middle case, and the caseback is steel.
The movement is the Seiko 6030 calibre, a quartz movement from the house's high-end generation: eight jewels, 32,768 Hz oscillator, stated accuracy of around fifteen seconds per month, and only 2mm in height — this is what explains the 5.1mm case thickness. It has been checked by our partner watchmakers and carries a 1-year guarantee. The watch is presented on a later black crocodile-embossed leather strap, in Lug width of 17mm.

What is the Dolce line at Seiko?
The house's dress line: thin cases, often gold-plated, restrained dials and quartz movements chosen for their low height. Dolce was designed for the watch worn under a shirt, where the other Seiko lines of the same period were aimed at sport or diving. The name appears on the dial.
What is the Seiko 6030 calibre?
An analogue quartz movement from the upper range of Seiko, produced in the 1980s: eight jewels, 32,768 Hz oscillator, stated accuracy of around fifteen seconds per month. Its defining feature comes down to one figure: 2mm thick. This is what allows the case to remain at 5.1mm, Crystal included. Seiko also used it in its Credor and Emblem lines.
How can you tell the battery is weakening?
The watch tells you itself. The 6030 calibre incorporates an end-of-battery indicator: when the charge becomes low, the seconds hand stops advancing second by second and begins jumping two steps every two seconds. The time remains accurate; it is the signal that it should be taken to a watchmaker in the following weeks.
Is the dial original?
Yes. The satin finish is even right to the edge, the markers are applied rather than printed, and the inscriptions — Seiko, Quartz, Dolce, and the reference code at the bottom of the dial — are sharp and correctly spaced, which a redial rarely achieves all at once. This dial has not been retouched.
Is this piece suited to a slim or larger wrist?
With a width of 29mm, 34mm Lug-to-lug and a thickness of 5.1mm, it suits wrists of around 14 to 17.5cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its slimness matters here as much as its width: at 5.1mm, it disappears under a cuff. The Lug width measures 17mm, a size easily found for replacement straps.
