Twelve gold-tone Roman numerals on black lacquer, and nothing else: no minute track, no date. The tonneau case follows the curve of the wrist at 5.2mm thick, something quartz made possible in the early 1980s.
An ultra-thin tonneau and a black dial with Roman numerals
This Seiko watch is a Dolce, reference 6030-5320, dated 1981. Dolce is the line that Seiko reserves for its ultra-thin dress watches: no complication, no worked bezel, a case reduced to what is needed to hold a dial and a movement.
The case is a tonneau with curved sides, whose shape follows the wrist, for just 5.2mm thick. Its short lugs extend directly from the case and bring the leather close to the skin. The crown is set flush with the right side, so as to add nothing to the silhouette.
The dial is black lacquered, with no minute track or applied markers: only twelve gold-tone Roman numerals run around it, with IIII at four o'clock in keeping with watchmakers' usage. Below the logo, the QUARTZ signature, and above six o'clock the name Dolce in cursive script. Three very fine gold-tone hands complete the whole.
The movement is a Japanese quartz. It was serviced in July 2026 by our watchmakers and carries a 1-year guarantee. The watch is fitted on a black crocodile-embossed leather strap, closed by a Buckle pin buckle.

- Overall condition: Good state of preservation. The black lacquer of the dial is deep and the gold-tone Roman numerals are complete, with no alteration to their gilding. The outer edge of the dial has a few green specks, concentrated along the lower left edge. The case shows surface scratches from wear on its polished surfaces. What is the Seiko Dolce?
Dolce is the line of extra-thin dress watches from Seiko, intended to be worn with a suit. Its principle is constant: a case reduced to the essentials, a dial without complications, and a quartz movement chosen for the slimness it allows. This reference, with its 5.2mm thickness, is a direct illustration of that.
Why does the dial show IIII and not IV?
It is the watchmakers' IIII, an old usage retained on a large number of Roman numeral dials, on both watches and public clocks. Many explanations have been put forward and none has reached a consensus; what is certain is that it is a trade convention and not a printing error.
What are the green specks on the outer edge of the dial?
These are marks caused by humidity over the decades, where the lacquer meets the edge of the dial. They are located along the lower left edge, do not reach the numerals or the centre, and do not progress any further as long as the watch is kept dry. Our photographs show them in close-up.
Can the strap be changed?
Yes. The Lug width measures 17mm, a standard size that allows for all commercially available straps. The fitted leather strap is not original: it can be replaced without any constraint specific to the case, unlike watches with integrated lugs.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
At 30.5mm wide, 35mm Lug-to-lug and 5.2mm thick, it suits wrists of around 15 to 18cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its short lugs and curved sides allow it to sit flat, including on a slender wrist.

Each watch is inspected by our watchmakers before shipping. In case of a mechanism malfunction during the first year, we cover the repair.
