Seiko Gold-Plated Noie: the petite oval dress watch with white dial and blued hands

This Seiko watch belongs to the Noie line, the Japanese house's feminine dress collection, recognizable by its hexagonal "N" logo on the dial. Unisex provided the wrist is slender, it is more a jewel watch than an instrument. Its gold-plated oval case, with full, polished flanks, adopts that elongated vertical silhouette that made the elegance of 20th-century shaped watches. It measures 21mm across (23mm with the crown) for a Lug-to-lug of 33mm and a thickness of only 6.9mm.

The lacquered white dial is of great purity. Twelve black Arabic numerals encircle it in a crisp, legible layout, while the line's gilded hexagonal "N" logo signs the lower part of the dial, beneath the SEIKO signature. Two slender blued baton hands cut elegantly across the light background, with a matching seconds hand. Nothing superfluous: this is a dial of refined sobriety, playing on the contrast of white, black and blue against gold.

Inside beats the calibre Seiko 1F21, a three-hand quartz movement reserved for ladies' dress watches. Its slender construction allows the watch's 6.9mm profile. In practice, maintenance is limited to a battery change by any watchmaker. The movement of this example has been checked by our watchmaker and the battery replaced before shipment.

On the wrist, the piece embraces the discreet de ville jewel. The gold oval, white dial and blued hands compose a dress watch of timeless elegance, here enhanced by a brown crocodile-style leather strap, perhaps original. The Lug width of 12mm directs the choice of replacement straps toward slender widths.

Three points to note

  • The vertical oval case and blued hands on a white dial are the signatures of this dress Seiko: a piece of great sobriety.
  • The case is gold-plated, not solid gold: it shows slight wear to the plating at 6 o'clock, disclosed with complete transparency.
  • The sapphire Crystal, rare on a piece at this price, is remarkably resistant to scratches and stands apart from the mineral crystal found on entry-level watches.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Seiko Noie line?
Noie is a line of feminine dress watches by Seiko, recognizable by its hexagonal “N” logo on the dial. It brings together refined cases, often shaped, and clean dials, in the spirit of a watchmaking jewel. This example, gold-plated and oval in form, is a sober and elegant expression of it.

Is this oval watch a “baignoire”?
Not in the literal sense. “Baignoire” colloquially refers to elongated oval cases, but it is above all a registered name by Cartier, whose model of the same name, dating back to 1912, was officially given that name in 1973. This Seiko is not one: it offers a Japanese interpretation, with its own identity and Noie logo, at a price that bears no comparison with a Swiss piece. It is a fully-fledged oval watch, elegant and accessible.

Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
It is a unisex piece, provided the wrist is slender. Its 21mm-wide case and elongated oval shape are particularly suited to delicate wrists, both feminine and masculine. Its gilded silhouette and clean dial lend it an elegance that can be worn equally by day and evening.

Is the case solid gold?
No: it is a gold-plated case over a steel base, a technique commonly seen on Seiko dress watches. The plating brings the warmth and radiance of gold at a fraction of the price. This piece shows slight wear to the plating at 6 o’clock, disclosed with full transparency and consistent with its age.

How should the quartz movement of this Seiko be maintained?
The 1F21 quartz calibre runs on a battery. When the watch stops, a simple battery replacement by a watchmaker is enough to get it going again. We recommend entrusting this operation to a professional in order to preserve the good condition of the case and the remaining water resistance of the gaskets.
