Seiko Baignoire — An Iconic Japanese Silhouette

This vintage Seiko Baignoire watch, produced around 2001, takes up the codes of an iconic silhouette in watchmaking: the Baignoire shape. Popularized by Cartier in the 1950s, the Baignoire refers to an oval case with pronounced vertical proportions, gracefully extending across the wrist — an enduring, feminine, and decidedly dressy silhouette. Seiko here offers its own interpretation, with the legendary precision and reliability of Japanese manufacture.

The gold-plated case is enhanced by sculpted horse-shoe lugs — an architectural detail that sets this piece apart from the most understated Baignoire watches. These refined attachments lend character to the profile and give the watch a presence greater than its compact size might suggest.

The white lacquered dial embraces graphic sobriety: black, slender, and rounded Breguet-style Arabic numerals, arranged all around the oval, in the tradition of classic European dress watches. The SEIKO signature at 12 o'clock and a small hexagonal “N” logo at 6 o'clock — an authentic period marker from Seiko — complete a refined composition. The black baton hands and the fine blued central seconds hand provide the horological contrast that animates the dial.

The sapphire crystal protects the whole. Powered by Seiko calibre 1F21, a reliable Japanese quartz movement, this piece is mounted on a vintage grained cognac leather strap, probably original to Seiko — its patina lends it an authentic charm. 21mm format, ideal for slender wrists, both feminine and masculine. An elegant and accessible Japanese alternative to the classic Swiss Baignoire. Selected, authenticated, and serviced by Atelier Victor. Fast and secure international shipping.

Three points to note about this piece

  • Seiko Baignoire in gold-plated finish: iconic vertical oval silhouette, popularized by the great European houses and interpreted here by Seiko.
  • Sculpted horse-shoe lugs and hexagonal “N” logo at 6 o'clock, a Seiko period marker: dressy refinement and authentic character.
  • White dial with Breguet Arabic numerals, sapphire crystal, Japanese quartz calibre 1F21 — a complete and well-preserved piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a Baignoire watch?
Baignoire refers to a vertically oval case silhouette, taller than it is wide, popularized by Cartier in the 1950s with the famous Baignoire Cartier. The term has become a generic descriptor for this shape in dress watchmaking, used by many maisons. This Seiko Baignoire offers a refined Japanese interpretation, at a far more accessible price than a Swiss Baignoire.
  • What are "Breguet" numerals?
Breguet numerals are an elegant and stylized Arabic numeral style, introduced by watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet at the beginning of the 19th century. Having become a classic of dress watchmaking, they bring a touch of timeless refinement to the dial.
  • What is the Seiko 1F21 caliber?
The 1F21 caliber is a Japanese Seiko quartz movement produced in the 2000s, powering the brand's small dress watches. It is a reliable and precise caliber, easy to maintain, requiring only a battery replacement every 2 to 3 years.
  • Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
With its compact 21mm width and Baignoire shape, this Seiko is an ideal piece for slender wrists, feminine or masculine alike. Its oval silhouette and Breguet numerals give it a distinctly elegant character.
  • What is the condition of the case?
The gold-plated case shows normal signs of wear, consistent with a watch of this age. The white dial and the Crystal sapphire are in excellent condition. We favor transparency: this piece is offered at a price reflecting its condition.
  • What is the international delivery timeframe?
Shipping within 48 hours, worldwide delivery in 3 to 5 days via DHL Express, insurance included.
