A gold rectangle with cut corners, and at the centre of the dial a second rectangle, raised, repeating the same shape. The sunburst starts from it and runs toward the markers. Five millimetres thick.
A vintage Seiko watch from 1985, gold-plated with cut corners and a sunburst dial
This vintage Seiko watch bears the reference 9021-5260 and the Seiko 9021 calibre, a three-hand quartz without date developed in Suwa in the 1980s. The case is gold-plated, rectangular with cut corners, with a stepped bezel. Its serial number places it in 1985.
The gold-tone dial is original and built on two levels. At the centre, a raised platform with cut corners, satin-finished, bears the SEIKO QUARTZ signature. Around it, the surface is sunburst: the rays start from the platform and run to the long, slim, gold-tone baton markers, doubled by a wide marker at 12 o'clock. Depending on the angle, the platform appears darker or lighter than what surrounds it; it is this interplay that creates the dial.
The gold-tone baton hands are original, with a slim centre seconds hand. The case measures 26mm in width for 36mm Lug-to-lug and 5mm thick. The gold-tone crown is original and the caseback is steel. The watch is presented on a later burgundy lizard-effect leather strap, in Lug width of 18mm.
The movement is the Seiko 9021 calibre, quartz with five jewels, stated accuracy of around fifteen seconds per month, without date or complication — that is what allows the 5mm case thickness. It has been checked by our partner watchmakers, it is functional and guaranteed for one year.

Frequently asked questions
What is a central platform dial?
A dial whose centre is a second level, slightly raised and finished differently from the outer area. Here the platform has a satin finish and follows the chamfered shape of the case, while the outer area is sunburst. The two finishes do not catch the light at the same time: the dial changes appearance with each movement of the wrist without any colour being added.
What is the Seiko 9021 calibre?
An analogue three-hand quartz developed by Seiko in Suwa, produced in the 1980s: five jewels, stated accuracy of around fifteen seconds per month, no date. It is a simple, thin movement, which Seiko fitted to its dress lines of the period. Its battery can be replaced by any watchmaker.
Is the dial original?
Yes. The sunburst finish is even right to the edge, the central section is made in one piece with the dial, the markers are applied rather than printed, and the movement code appears at 6 o'clock on the dial as on every Seiko piece from this period. This dial has not been retouched.
Does a quartz watch require maintenance?
Less than a mechanical one: no winding, no periodic maintenance, accuracy of a few seconds per month. The only thing to do is change the battery, with a watchmaker. The point to watch is not to leave a dead battery in the case: it will eventually leak and damage the movement.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or large wrist?
With a width of 26mm, 36mm Lug-to-lug and 5mm thick, it suits wrists of around 14 to 17.5cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its thinness matters as much as its width: at 5mm, it disappears under a cuff. The 18mm Lug width is one of the most common, which leaves a full choice of replacement straps.
