A vintage gold-plated Seiko watch, cushion-shaped with a textured champagne dial
This vintage Seiko watch bears the reference 9021-517A and the Seiko 9021 calibre, a three-hand quartz movement without date developed in Suwa. The case is gold-plated — SGP marking on the caseback — cushion-shaped, a rectangle with broadly rounded corners. Its serial number places it in 1994.
The champagne dial is original and its surface has a fine grained texture: a regular, tight pattern that gives the dial the appearance of stretched fabric and holds the light rather than reflecting it. Twelve applied gold-tone baton markers mark the hours, doubled at twelve, with dots for the minutes. Below twelve, the SEIKO QUARTZ signature in black.
The gold-tone baton hands are original, with a slim centre seconds hand. The case measures 27mm in width, 35mm Lug-to-lug and 5mm thick; its narrow polished bezel follows the curve of the corners. The gold-tone crown is original and the back is steel. The watch is presented on a later green crocodile-embossed leather strap, in Lug width of 18mm.
The movement is the Seiko 9021 calibre, quartz with five jewels, stated accuracy of around fifteen seconds per month, with no date or complication — which is what allows the 5mm case thickness. It has been checked by our partner watchmakers, it is functional and carries a 1-year guarantee.

Frequently asked questions
What does the SGP marking mean?
Seiko Gold Plated: this is the wording that Seiko engraves on the caseback of its gold-plated watches, as opposed to SS for steel. It indicates the nature of the plating, not its thickness. On this piece, the plating is even across the entire case middle.
What is the Seiko 9021 caliber?
An analogue three-hand quartz developed by Seiko in Suwa: five jewels, stated accuracy of around fifteen seconds per month, no date. It is a simple, slim movement that Seiko fitted to its dress lines. Its battery can be replaced by any watchmaker.
Is the dial original?
Yes. The texture is even right to the edge, the markers are applied rather than printed, and the movement code appears at the bottom of the dial as on every Seiko piece from this period. This dial has not been retouched.
Does a quartz watch require maintenance?
Less than a mechanical one: no winding, no periodic maintenance, accuracy within a few seconds per month. The only thing needed is a battery change, by a watchmaker. The point to watch is not to leave a dead battery in the case: it will eventually leak and damage the movement.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a width of 27mm, a 35mm Lug-to-lug, and a thickness of 5mm, it suits wrists from about 14 to 17.5cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its slimness matters as much as its width: at 5mm, it disappears under a cuff. The 18mm Lug width is one of the most common, which leaves a full choice of replacement straps.

Each watch is inspected by our watchmakers before shipping. In case of a mechanism malfunction during the first year, we cover the repair.
