Atelier Note

An engine-turned bezel in a rope pattern around a champagne sunburst dial, two gold-tone hands and 5.4mm thickness. A 1984 Seiko, on black crocodile leather. Checked, delivered with its Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate.

A 1984 Seiko, engine-turned bezel and extra-thin champagne dial

The round gold-plated case measures 31mm in diameter, 5.4mm thick and 35mm Lug-to-lug. Its bezel is engine-turned all around, with a rope pattern that catches the light; the slim lugs hold the strap with a 17mm Lug width. The caseback is steel.

The champagne dial, with a sunburst finish, features applied gold-tone baton markers, doubled at 12 o'clock, and the single Seiko Quartz signature below 12 o'clock. Two gold-tone hands, hours and minutes, stand out against this warm background. Dial and hands are original.

The watch is powered by the Seiko 9020 calibre, a thin two-hand quartz designed for the brand's dress watches: it is what makes the case's 5.4mm possible. The serial number engraved on the caseback dates production to November 1984.

It is fitted with a black crocodile leather strap, fastened by a gold-tone pin buckle. With a 31mm diameter and 5.4mm thickness, it can be worn on a man's wrist as well as a woman's wrist, and slips under a cuff.

Three points to note

01

Engine-turned bezel — A rope pattern around the entire perimeter of the gold-plated case.

02

5.4mm thickness — An extra-thin case, made possible by the 9020 quartz calibre.

03

Champagne sunburst dial — Gold-tone baton markers and two gold-tone hands.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the watch not have a seconds hand?
The calibre Seiko 9020 is a two-hand quartz movement, with hours and minutes. Without a seconds hand, the movement remains slim and the dial keeps a clean display, typical of dress watches.

How is this watch dated?
By its serial number, engraved on the caseback. At Seiko, the first digit indicates the year within the decade and the following sign the month, N for November: 4N•••• corresponds here to November 1984.

Is the strap original?
No. The black crocodile leather strap and its gold-tone pin buckle were fitted as replacements; the Lug width of 17mm makes it easy to change the strap. The dial and hands are original.

How do you care for a gold-plated case?
A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for routine care. It is preferable to avoid abrasive products and household cleaners, and to remove the watch for activities that rub against it.

How do delivery and payment work?
The piece is shipped with tracking and insurance by a trusted carrier, to a collection point or home delivery depending on the destination. Delivery is free.
