Racer Orient — The Japanese horological curiosity with triple calendar and moon phase

This vintage Racer Orient watch is one of those atypical pieces that only Japanese watchmaking of the 1980s knew how to produce: a serious horological complication — triple calendar and moon phase — in an accessible and refined case. Racer was one of the brands distributed by Orient for its most creative pieces, combining Japanese reliability with sophisticated design.

The silver dial is a true horological composition: a 12-hour sub-dial at 12 o'clock indicating the time in a second time zone, a day-of-the-week sub-dial at 9 o'clock (Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat), a date sub-dial at 3 o'clock (1 to 31), and a moon phase at 6 o'clock on a starry midnight-blue background. The gold-toned rings encircling each sub-dial bring elegant contrast and visually structure the dial. The RACER signature appears just above the moon phase.

The 31.5mm steel case stands out for its sculpted, curved lugs — a rare sculptural design detail that gives the piece a unique presence on the wrist. Powered by a Japanese quartz movement with multiple complications (caliber reference KT C7E0J030), it offers reliable precision and minimal maintenance for such a richly complicated watch.

Mounted on a handmade black crocodile-style leather strap, this piece is intended for lovers of curious watchmaking, those seeking a genuine complication (moon phase, full calendar) without the budget of the great Swiss maisons. Compact 31.5mm format — perfectly Unisex. Selected piece, authenticated and serviced by Atelier Victor. Fast and secure international shipping.

Three points to note about this piece

  • Triple calendar complication (12 o'clock time, day, date) and moon phase on a starry blue background: true complicated watchmaking at an accessible price.
  • Case steel 31.5mm with sculptural, downward-curving lugs — a rare and recognizable design detail.
  • Atypical Japanese piece from the 1980s, signed Racer by Orient: a horological curiosity for discerning collectors.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is a triple calendar?
A triple calendar is a watch complication that simultaneously displays three pieces of information: the day of the week (Sun, Mon...), the date of the month (1 to 31), and often a third parameter such as the month or a second time zone. On this Racer, the third subdial indicates the time in a second time zone (12h subdial).
  • How does a moon phase work?
The moon phase is a poetic complication that displays the lunar cycle (29.5 days) through a rotating disc. On this Racer, two moons alternate against a starry midnight-blue background, revealing in turn the new moon, first quarter, full moon, and last quarter. On quartz watches, manual adjustment remains recommended once a year.
  • What is Racer? What is its connection with Orient?
Racer is a Japanese brand from the 1980s distributed by Orient for some of its complication pieces. These watches combine the renowned reliability of Japanese quartz movements with a distinctive design, sometimes more creative than classic Orient models.
  • Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
With its compact 31.5mm case, it is a perfectly Unisex piece — elegant on the wrist of both a man and a woman, comfortable on slimmer wrists.
  • What is the international delivery time?
Dispatch within 48 hours, worldwide delivery in 3 to 5 days via DHL Express, insurance included.
