Four strokes instead of a IV: the dial follows the watchmakers' IIII, an old convention that has remained on watches with Roman numerals. The sunburst starts from the center and runs to the corners of the square case.
A gold-plated square, golden sunburst dial and Roman numerals
This Omega watch is an De Ville, reference 511.415, produced in 1975. The case is square with rounded corners, gold-plated, fitted with short lugs that close the shape rather than extending it. Seen from the front, there is only a golden square and a domed Crystal set on top.
The golden dial is sunburst: the rays start from the center and open out to the four corners, so that the light moves across the dial with every movement of the wrist. The black Roman numerals are printed at the edge, fine and elongated, with the IIII at four o'clock according to watchmakers' convention. Beneath the logo, the only inscription DE VILLE, and two black leaf hands — no seconds, no date.
The movement is an Omega calibre 625, a mechanical hand-wound movement, 17 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour and approximately 41 hours of power reserve. It displays only the hours and minutes, which explains the case's 6.4mm thickness. It was serviced in July 2026.
The piece is fitted with a black crocodile-style leather strap, closed by a Buckle pin buckle, on a 16mm Lug width that allows for easy replacement.

It is the watchmakers' IIII, an old convention of watchmaking and clock dials, preserved on a large number of watches with Roman numerals. Many explanations have been put forward and none has reached a consensus; what is certain is that it is a professional convention and not a printing error.
What movement powers this Omega De Ville?
An Omega caliber 625, hand-wound mechanical, 17 jewels, beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour for approximately 41 hours of power reserve. Produced by Omega between 1973 and 1979, it displays only the hours and minutes, which allows for the movement's 2.5mm height and the slimness of the case.
Why are there only two hands?
Because the caliber 625 is built that way: hours and minutes, with no seconds or date. It is a design choice specific to thin watches from this period — the surface of the dial remains uncluttered and nothing moves continuously across it. The version with central seconds exists under another caliber reference.
Does a gold-plated case require precautions?
Yes, more than steel. The plating is a layer of gold applied over a base metal: it wears on friction points, mainly the edges and the caseback. It is preserved by avoiding water, household products and cosmetics, and is cleaned with a soft, dry cloth, never with an abrasive or polishing paste, which remove the layer.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
At 27mm wide, 32mm Lug-to-lug and 6.4mm thick, it sits well on wrists of approximately 15 to 18cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. A square case has more visual presence than a round one of the same size. The 16mm Lug width allows for the full range of standard straps.
