Lucent: a two-circle dial on a gold-plated and steel case
This Seiko watch belongs to the Lucent line, reference 5E21-6E00, dated 1998. It is a Japanese quartz dress watch, with a round case combining two metals: a polished steel middle case and lugs, a domed ring-shaped gold-plated bezel, and a matching gold-tone crown.
The dial is built around two concentric circles. At the periphery, a grained grey ring bears twelve gold Roman numerals, framed by two fine lines. At the centre, a perfectly smooth lacquered white disc, on which the SEIKO signature stands out below 12 o'clock and the name LUCENT above 6 o'clock. At the bottom of the dial, the factory marking JAPAN 5E21-6E30 T.
Three gold-tone hands: two tapered leaf hands for the hours and minutes, and a centre seconds hand in wire form crossing both circles in a single stroke. No applied markers, no date: legibility relies entirely on the printed numerals.
The Crystal is in sapphire, a material rarely found on a dress watch of this format and period, and it is here in very good condition. The quartz movement has been checked by our watchmakers, fitted with a new battery, and it is guaranteed for one year. With a 30.5mm diameter and a thickness of 5.4mm, the watch disappears beneath a cuff.

- Overall condition: Excellent state of preservation. The dial is clean: intact grey grained ring, Roman numerals and inscriptions perfectly printed, hands without alteration. Crystal sapphire crystal in very good condition (9/10). The steel of the middle case and lugs is polished and crisp; the gold-plated bezel shows light marks from wear around its edge, visible in our photographs.

What is the Lucent line by Seiko?
It is a series of dress watches produced by Seiko for the Japanese market, powered by the 5E21 quartz calibre and offered in round and square cases, in steel, gold-plated or two-tone versions. The references all begin with 5E21, followed by the case code — here 6E00 — and the name is printed on the dial.
What does a Crystal sapphire crystal offer?
Sapphire is the hardest of watch crystals: it resists the scratches of everyday life where a mineral crystal accumulates them, which explains the condition of the dial after nearly thirty years. It remains brittle under a sharp impact, and it cannot be polished: a damaged sapphire is replaced, not restored.
Does a two-tone case require different care?
Yes, because of its two materials. The steel case middle can tolerate a slightly damp microfibre cloth. The gold-plated bezel, however, is a layer of gold over a base metal: it wears with friction and should be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth, never with an abrasive or a polishing paste, which would remove the layer.
Is a 16mm Lug width easy to replace?
Yes. 16mm is a common even size among bracelet and strap manufacturers, widely available in leather as well as metal. On a 30.5mm watch, it is also the width that preserves the proportions: a wider bracelet or strap would make the case look visually thicker.
Is this piece suited to a slim or larger wrist?
With a 30.5mm diameter, 35.5mm Lug-to-lug, and 5.4mm thickness, it sits well on wrists from about 14 to 18cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its slimness lets it slip under a shirt cuff without a second thought.
