The sculptural design of a steel Longines

This Longines captivates with its brushed steel square case, featuring the sculptural design typical of the late 1960s. The Longines house, one of the oldest Swiss manufactures, presents here a dress piece with a distinctly assertive character. The round, gray, finely sandblasted dial fits within the geometric shape of the case, creating an elegant contrast between the dial’s softness and the clean lines of the steel. A characterful watch, at once understated and original.

The sandblasted gray dial catches the light softly, animated by elegant black Roman numerals arranged around the perimeter. The Longines logo with the winged hourglass — the oldest horological emblem still in use — crowns the top of the dial, while the black hands ensure a clear reading of the hours and minutes. The mention “Swiss Made” appears discreetly at the bottom, a guarantee of the piece’s Swiss origin.

At the heart of this Longines beats caliber 428, a 17-jewel hand-wound mechanical movement produced by the manufacture between the mid-1960s and the early 1970s. Renowned for the quality of its finishing and its reliability, this simple, carefully crafted caliber drives the hours and minutes. The Longines manual movements of this era are among the most appreciated in Swiss horology before the quartz era.

With its 28mm case and its Lug width of 19mm, this Longines is worn equally well on a man’s or a woman’s wrist, in a dressy and vintage spirit. The original gray dial is well preserved. The brushed steel shows signs of use, visible in the light and consistent with the age of the piece; the steel can be repolished if desired. The acrylic Crystal is in good condition (8/10), and the recently fitted handmade black leather strap completes the ensemble; its crown and its Buckle are not original.

Three points to note

Frequently asked questions

Why do we refer to the "Tank" shape for this watch?
The "Tank" shape refers to a case with straight, geometric lines, popularized by Cartier — the Tank is a trademarked design of the house, whose shape is said to evoke the tanks of the First World War. The term is now commonly used to describe dressy cases with sharp angles. This Longines is not a Cartier, but it belongs to that geometric spirit, in a Swiss interpretation in steel with a sculptural design.

What is the Longines house?
Longines is a Swiss watch manufacture founded in 1832 in Saint-Imier. Its emblem, the winged hourglass, is the oldest watch logo still registered and unchanged. Renowned for the quality of its movements and its heritage in chronometry and aviation, Longines ranks among the great names of Swiss watchmaking.

What is the Longines caliber 428?
The 428 is a hand-wound mechanical movement with 17 jewels, produced by Longines between the mid-1960s and the early 1970s. Appreciated for its reliability and careful finishing, it drives the hours and minutes. A manual movement is wound every day by the crown; periodic servicing by a watchmaker preserves its proper operation.

Is the case made of steel?
Yes, the case is made of brushed stainless steel. Unlike gold-plated models, it does not present any risk of plating wear: steel retains its appearance over time and can be repolished. Here, one notes signs of wear on the brushed surfaces, consistent with the age of the piece and disclosed with full transparency.

Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
This is a Unisex piece. Its 28mm case offers a balanced size, comfortable on both masculine and feminine wrists. Its carrée shape with sculptural lines and its gray dial with Roman numerals make it an elegant yet distinctive dress watch, ideal for both daytime and evening wear.

What is the international shipping time?
Dispatch within 48 hours, international delivery within 3 to 5 days, insurance included.
