Black hands on an entirely golden dial

This Longines watch, produced in the 1980s, can be worn equally well by a man or a woman, with a 32.3mm round gold-plated case. Its 5.5mm thickness places it among the thinnest dress watches of its generation, where most contemporary Swiss dress watches exceed seven millimetres. The lugs are very slender and curve toward the wrist, while the bezel is reduced to a fine outline.

The golden dial features a sunburst satin finish radiating from the centre, causing the tone to shift with the angle. Twelve applied baton hour markers, also golden, are set in relief. The date window, at three o'clock, is framed by a golden surround that blends it into the whole.

One detail breaks this uniformity, and it is what gives the piece its character: the hands are black. Where most golden dress watches match their hands to the dial, these stand out clearly, all the way to the very fine central seconds hand. Legibility gains a sharpness that a monochrome design does not allow.

The LONGINES signature appears below twelve, accompanied by the winged hourglass. This logo, registered in 1889, is considered the oldest watchmaking emblem still in use without substantial modification. The house was founded in 1832 in Saint-Imier, in the Swiss Jura.

Three points to note

  • Black hands on a golden dial — a contrast that few golden dress watches embrace, and one that makes reading immediate.
  • 5.5mm thick — a slim figure for a dress watch, as contemporary Swiss models generally exceed seven millimetres.
  • Applied baton hour markers — set in relief rather than printed, they catch the light from various angles.

Why choose a Longines vintage watch?

Buying a Longines vintage watch rather than a new model means gaining access to a Swiss manufacture founded in 1832 at a controlled budget. Vintage quartz watches from this period are also the easiest to maintain on the pre-owned market: a battery change is enough to get them running again.

This reference holds a precise place among men's and women's vintage watches: its 32.3mm format and slimness make it a vintage dress watch that can be worn equally well by both, with a date display that makes it suitable for everyday use.

Like all our pre-owned Swiss watches, this one has been opened and checked by our watchmakers: verification of the calibre and its consistency with the reference, examination of the dial, hands, and case. Every vintage watch we offer comes with an invoice Atelier Victor serving as a certificate, a one-year warranty, and guaranteed lifetime authenticity.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the hands black?
It is a design choice, and less common than it may seem. Most golden dress watches match their hands to the dial, which creates legibility through relief rather than contrast. Here, the black stands out clearly against the golden tone and makes the time immediately legible, including in low-angle light where a monochrome dial requires a moment of adjustment.

How thick is this watch?
It measures 5.5mm, a slim figure for a dress watch: contemporary Swiss models generally exceed seven millimetres. This thinness is made possible by the flat architecture of quartz calibers. In practice, the watch slips easily under a cuff.

What does the winged hourglass logo represent?
It is Longines's emblem, registered in 1889 and considered the oldest watchmaking logo still in use without substantial modification. The house was founded in 1832 in Saint-Imier, in the Swiss Jura, and first became known for its sports timing instruments before developing a dress-oriented catalogue.

How should a gold-plated case be cared for?
Gold plating is a layer of gold applied over a base metal, which becomes thinner over time in the areas most exposed to friction. A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for routine care. Avoid abrasive products and household cleaners, which accelerate wear. Replating is possible through a specialist, but it removes the case's original traces.

Is this piece suitable for a slim or broad wrist?
With a 32.3mm diameter, 39mm Lug-to-lug and 5.5mm thick, it suits wrists of approximately 15 to 18cm. Its very slender, curved lugs follow the wrist and reduce the sense of bulk. The Lug width measures 18mm, making it easy to change the strap.
