The discreet elegance of a Swiss dress watch signed Flagship

This Longines Flagship from the 1990s embodies the art of the dress watch, Swiss style: understated, slim, and refined. Its silver dial with sunburst finish, of remarkable purity, is enhanced by applied baton hour markers, tapered hands, and a discreet date window at 3 o'clock. The whole is signed with the winged hourglass logo, the oldest watchmaking brand logo still in use, registered by Longines as early as 1889.

The Flagship line, launched in 1957, is one of the maison's most iconic collections: it was conceived as Longines' “flagship”, synonymous with quality and classic elegance. The Flagship medallion, engraved on the case back, is its recognizable signature.

Longines occupies a special place in watchmaking history. In the 1950s and 1960s, the maison was Omega's direct competitor — at the same level of quality, with comparable calibers and equivalent prices. Longines also regularly won the chronometry competitions of the Neuchâtel Observatory. It was only from the 1980s-90s, after its integration into the Swatch Group, that the brand was repositioned. For the vintage enthusiast, this represents an opportunity: to rediscover Longines refinement at a particularly accessible price point.

Driven by the Longines L156.4 quartz caliber (ETA base), precise and reliable, this piece combines the security of quartz with the elegance of an extra-thin case (just 6 mm thick). Fitted with its original rice bead bracelet in steel, supple and comfortable, it slips under a cuff with perfect ease. With its restrained proportions, this is a watch in Unisex format, ideal for dress wear as well as for polished everyday use, on the wrist of both men and women.

Three points to note:

  • Original sunburst silver dial, signed with the Longines winged hourglass logo.
  • Flagship model (engraved medallion on the case back), extra-thin steel case (6 mm) and original rice bead bracelet.
  • The refinement of a great Swiss maison, at an accessible price.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Longines Flagship?
The Flagship is an iconic Longines line, launched in 1957 as the brand’s “flagship” model. Synonymous with classic elegance and quality, it is recognized by the Flagship medallion engraved on the case back. Issued over the decades in both mechanical and quartz versions, it remains one of the maison’s most appreciated collections.

Is Longines a good brand compared to Omega?
In the 1950s-60s, Longines and Omega were direct competitors, at the same level of quality and price, with Longines often winning the chronometry competitions at the Neuchâtel Observatory. It was only after its integration into the Swatch Group in the 1980s-90s that Longines was repositioned a notch below. For collectors, vintage Longines therefore offers a refinement comparable to Omega, often at a significantly lower price.

What does the winged hourglass logo mean?
The winged hourglass is Longines’ emblem, registered in 1889. It is the oldest watchmaking brand logo still in use and unchanged to this day. Its presence on the dial, movement, and case is among the authenticity checkpoints verified by our watchmakers.

Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
With its 32.5 mm case (excluding the crown) and its 6 mm slimness, this Flagship can be worn equally well on a male or female wrist. Its silver dial and rice-grain bracelet make it a versatile dress watch, elegant in any circumstance.
