Atelier Note

A 35mm round steel case, an original white dial signed International Watch Co, dauphine hands. An IWC from the 1950s, powered by the automatic calibre 852. Serviced, delivered with its Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate.

An automatic IWC from the 1950s, steel and white dial

At the beginning of the 1950s, IWC equipped its first automatic calibres with the Pellaton winding system, which it patented. The Schaffhausen manufacture, founded in 1868, then housed these movements in round, understated cases, with a design defined more by the dials and hands than by decoration.

The original white dial bears the International Watch Co signature in cursive and the word Schaffhausen below 12 o'clock, with the word Automatic above 6 o'clock. Applied baton markers, doubled at 12 o'clock, and a dotted minute track mark its perimeter; the dauphine hands and fine centre seconds stand out clearly against this light background.

The round steel case measures 35mm in diameter, 42.5mm Lug-to-lug and 11.2mm thick. Its straight lugs take the strap on an 18mm Lug width, and the crown sits at 3 o'clock. The caseback is in plain steel.

The watch is powered by the IWC calibre 852, produced from 1952 to 1958: an automatic Pellaton movement with 21 jewels and centre seconds. It is fitted with a smooth black leather strap, fastened by a steel pin Buckle.

Frequently asked questions

What is Pellaton winding?
The automatic winding system patented by IWC and fitted to its automatic calibres since the early 1950s. The oscillating weight winds the mainspring in both directions of rotation. The calibre 852 in this piece, with 21 jewels and 19,800 vibrations per hour, is equipped with it.

How is an automatic watch worn?
It winds itself through the movements of the wrist. Worn every day, it keeps running; after a few days at rest, a few turns of the crown will start it again before setting the time.

Is the strap original?
No. The black leather strap and its Buckle steel pin buckle were fitted as replacements; the Lug width of 18mm allows the strap to be changed. The dial and hands are original.

Is this piece suitable for a slim or large wrist?
With a 35mm diameter, 42.5mm Lug-to-lug, and 11.2mm thickness, it suits wrists of around 15 to 19cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like.

How do delivery and payment work?
The piece is shipped with tracking and insurance by a trusted carrier, to a collection point or to your home depending on the destination. Delivery is free. Payment by bank transfer benefits from a 3% discount.
