The house monogram across the entire surface of the dial
This Christian Dior watch, reference 40.122.2, produced in the 1990s, is a feminine jewel-format piece, with a 24mm round gold-plated case. Its 5.6mm thickness remains restrained, and the four bracelet attachments, horizontally fluted in gadroons, extend beyond the caseband in the manner of a piece of jewelry rather than a watch.
The dial is what identifies the piece. On a golden background, the CD monogram is repeated in a continuous pattern, printed in a slightly lighter tone, covering the entire surface. It is the same principle as the house's Oblique monogram on its leather goods: a motif that reads as a texture before it reads as a signature.
The Christian Dior signature and the word PARIS appear in black in the upper section, the only elements to stand out clearly against the background. Twelve small applied golden dots mark the hours, and a date window is located at six o’clock. The black baton hands, slender and tapered, complete the display. The words QUARTZ SWISS MADE close the dial in the lower section.
A ring in a pinkish hue surrounds the dial, between it and the golden bezel, softening the transition from one tone to the other. On a fashion house watch, this type of detail belongs more to the jeweler’s craft than to the watchmaker’s.

Condition and warranty
- Overall condition: Good state of preservation. The golden dial retains its entire monogram, the applied markers and hands are crisp, and the rose-colored ring is intact. The Crystal is in very beautiful condition (9/10). The gold plating on the case shows fine marks and signs of wear, particularly on the bezel and lugs. The leather strap is the original one but shows signs of fatigue: we recommend replacing it for daily wear. The crown is not the original one and stands out due to its silver tone.

Is the original strap still usable?
It holds, but it is over thirty years old and the leather shows signs of fatigue. We include it because it is the original one and some buyers value that, but we recommend replacing it for daily wear. The 13mm Lug width corresponds to a common size, which makes replacement simple and inexpensive.
Was this watch made in Switzerland?
Yes, and the dial states it: the words QUARTZ SWISS MADE appear at the bottom. This is worth noting, because on a fashion house watch Swiss manufacturing is not automatic. Christian Dior chose movements made in Switzerland for this line, which also explains the simplicity of its maintenance.
What are gadrooned lugs?
Gadrooning is a rounded fluting borrowed from the vocabulary of goldsmithing. On this watch, the four strap lugs are covered with it horizontally and project from the case rather than blending into it. It is more a jeweler's treatment than a watchmaker's, and a common feature of Christian Dior watches from this period.
How should a gold-plated case be cared for?
Plating is a layer of gold applied over a base metal, which becomes thinner over time in the areas most exposed to friction. A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for routine care.
