Cartier Pasha C Steel Chronograph: the automatic chronograph with chain-link crown and panda dial

This Cartier watch belongs to the Pasha C, the 35mm version of one of the house's most recognizable lines. Unisex, it suits both men and women. Its steel case, with polished bezel and brushed case band, is distinguished by the collection's signature trait: a screw-down crown protected by a cap connected to the case by a chain-link. The caseback is secured by eight screws. The case measures 35mm (41mm with the crown) for a Lug-to-lug of 40mm.

The sunburst silver dial with black registers is what collectors call a panda dial: the contrast of the three dark subdials against the light background gives it both legibility and character. The large Arabic 12 at 12 o'clock signs the Pasha. The small seconds runs at 3 o'clock, the 30-minute counter at 9 o'clock, the 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock; the date window is set between 4 o'clock and 5 o'clock. A tachymeter scale runs around the rehaut, and the blue leaf hands with luminous inserts stand out against the silver.

Beating inside is a ETA 2894-2 calibre signed Cartier, an automatic modular chronograph movement with 37 jewels. It is a robust and thoroughly documented calibre, which is a genuine advantage for a collector's piece: servicing poses no difficulty and parts remain available, unlike the most discreet in-house calibres. The movement in this example has been serviced by our watchmaker.

On the wrist, the original steel bracelet with wide links, closed by a concealed folding clasp, extends the case into a silhouette that is both sporty and dressy. It is sized for a 17.5cm wrist circumference; additional links can be ordered to fit a larger wrist. The Pasha C remains one of the rare Cartier to fully embrace a sporty register without losing any of the maison's design language.

Three points to note

  • The case has very likely been polished during its life: the edges and surfaces no longer show their original definition. We prefer to mention it rather than omit it.
  • The ETA 2894-2 calibre is a practical asset: robust, well documented, and serviceable by any watchmaker, unlike the most discreet manufactures.
  • The bracelet is sized to 17.5cm: additional links are available on request. Write to us before purchase.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Cartier Pasha C?
The Pasha C is the 35mm version of the Pasha, one of the most recognizable lines from Cartier. It is distinguished by its screw-down crown protected by a cap attached to the case by a chain, its oversized Arabic 12 and its wide-link bracelet. It is one of the rare Cartier to fully embrace a sporty character without compromising the maison’s design.

Has the case been polished?
Very probably, yes. The edges and surfaces no longer present the definition they had when leaving the factory, which indicates one or more polishings over the watch’s life. This is common on Cartier that have seen service, and we prefer to say it plainly: it does not affect readability or function, but a collector attentive to original geometry should know before buying.

What movement powers this Pasha C Chronograph?
An ETA 2894-2 caliber signed Cartier, modular automatic chronograph movement with 37 jewels. It is the caliber used in the 35mm Pasha C Chronograph with solid caseback; the 38mm versions with sapphire caseback use a Frédéric Piguet movement. The advantage of the 2894-2 is substantial in practice: robust and fully documented, it can be serviced by any watchmaker. The movement of this example has been serviced by our watchmaker and is guaranteed for 1 year.

What is the purpose of the chain cap on the crown?
It protects the screw-down crown and reinforces the watch’s original water resistance. The chain simply prevents the cap from being lost during setting. This device is the signature trait of the Pasha since its creation, and one of the most immediately recognizable design details of Cartier.

What is meant by a “panda” dial?
It is a collector’s term, not an official designation Cartier: it refers to a light-colored dial whose chronograph counters are black, by analogy with the animal’s coat. The contrast makes the counters immediately legible and gives the watch a sporty look. It is a highly sought-after configuration on the vintage chronograph market.
