Atelier Note
A rose struck in relief at the top of the dial — the emblem that Rolex's sister house reserved for its 1950s pieces, in an Oyster case with a screw-down crown.
A 1959 Tudor Oyster, with relief rose
This Tudor watch, reference 7934, dates from 1959 — the golden age of the brand that Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, created to offer the construction of his parent house at a more accessible price. The agreement was clear: the waterproof Oyster case and the screw-down crown, Rolex patents, with a reworked sourced movement. This watch is its exact expression.
The cream dial bears the emblem collectors seek on Tudor watches from this decade: the Tudor rose struck in relief — the Big Rose, heraldic flower of the English dynasty that gave the brand its name, with its stem and leaves. A crosshair — the central cross that divides the dial into quadrants, in watchmaking vocabulary — runs across it from end to end, the applied dagger markers, faceted, punctuate the hour track, and the mention SHOCK-RESISTING marks the era. The steel lance hands are accompanied by a blued seconds hand, as fine as a thread.
The steel Oyster case of 32mm — the classic size of the 1950s — bears its fluted screw-down crown, which locks onto the tube as on contemporary Rolex watches. It is this construction that built the Oyster reputation: a case designed to last, and many have passed through seventy years without faltering.
The hand-wound mechanical movement has been serviced by our partner watchmakers and is guaranteed for one year. The watch is fitted with a later gold leather strap, with Buckle pin buckle.
Three points to note

Case Oyster with screw-down crown — Rolex patents, at the heart of Tudor's founding agreement.
03
1959, dated by its serial — a witness to the most sought-after decade of vintage Tudor watches.
Why choose a vintage Tudor?
This pre-owned Tudor watch holds a precise place among men's and women's vintage watches : its 32mm case for 40mm of Lug-to-lug can be worn by both men and women, and it offers Oyster construction — the case that made Rolex legendary — at a budget unrelated to its parent company. Vintage Tudor watches from the 1950s, with Big Rose dials foremost among them, are among the watches whose value has been rising most steadily.
Like all our vintage mechanical watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our partner watchmakers: movement check, examination of the dial, hands and case. Every vintage watch we offer comes with an Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate, a one-year warranty, and guaranteed lifetime authenticity.

Frequently asked questions
What does "Big Rose" mean?
This is the name collectors give to Tudor dials from the 1950s bearing the applied rose, with its stem and leaves — the full emblem of the Tudor dynasty, which gave the brand its name. At the end of the decade, the rose was reduced to the flower alone within a shield, then disappeared: Big Rose dials, produced for only a few years, have become the most sought-after among vintage Tudor.
What is a crosshair dial?
It is a dial crossed by a fine central cross — crosshair, the reticle of a sighting bezel in English — dividing it into four quadrants. This design, very common on de ville watches from the 1950s, aided legibility and disappeared in the following decade. Today it is one of the most sought-after details on dials from this period, and this one is crisp and original.
What is the link between Tudor and Rolex?
Tudor was created by Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, to offer his house’s build quality at a more accessible price. Tudors from this period use the Oyster case and screw-down crown patented by Rolex — only the movement, a reworked Swiss-sourced caliber, sets them apart. This is what makes vintage Tudor one of the smartest ways into crown-brand watchmaking.
What is a screw-down crown for?
It screws onto a tube fixed to the case, like a cap, instead of simply being pushed into it: this is the principle of the Oyster case, which made the water-resistance reputation of period Rolex and Tudor watches. To wind the watch, unscrew the crown, turn it gently about twenty times without forcing it, then screw it back down. Daily winding ensures the best regularity.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a 32mm diameter, 40mm Lug-to-lug, and 10mm thickness, it suits wrists of roughly 15 to 19cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. It is the classic size of the 1950s, now back in favor, and its thin bezel gives it more presence than its measurement suggests. The Lug width measures 16mm.
