Atelier Note

Two concentric blues, a red heart on the seconds hand, Monday in Cyrillic — the automatic from Moscow, serviced, that winds itself.

A Slava automatic, Moscow's two-tone blue

This watch is a Slava — Слава, “Glory”” — the brand of the Second Moscow Watch Factory, founded in 1924: the other great Soviet manufacture, specialist in calendar movements. Produced in the 1980s, this one is a domestic market version: everything is written in Russian, from the day in the window — ПНД, Monday — to the markings on the dial.

These markings state the essentials: Автоподзавод — automatic winding — and 27 камней, twenty-seven jewels. It is a manufacture automatic: an oscillating weight winds the mainspring with the movements of the wrist; worn every day, it never needs to be wound by hand — and its day-date calibre is among the best-assembled in the Soviet industry.

The two-tone blue dial provides the spectacle: a deep blue heart encircled by a striated light blue ring, beneath a white minute track — the concentric depth of eighties dials. The indices with luminous channels set its rhythm, and red punctuates the centre: the heart of the minute hand, the entire seconds hand. The Cyrillic day-date window opens at three o'clock.

The automatic movement was serviced in 2024 by our partner watchmakers — complete disassembly, cleaning, oiling and adjustment — and is guaranteed for one year. The watch is fitted with a later blue grained leather strap, extending the dial.

Three points to note

01

Manufacture automatic — Автоподзавод, 27 jewels: Moscow's day-date calibre, serviced in 2024.

02

Two-tone blue dial — the deep heart within the striated light ring, punctuated with red.

03

Cyrillic domestic market — the day in Russian in the window, the version the USSR kept for itself.

Why choose a vintage Soviet watch?

This vintage Slava watch occupies a precise place among men's and women's vintage watches: its 36.2mm case can be worn by either, and a Soviet manufacture automatic — which winds itself, displays the day and date, and has just been serviced — is the quintessential everyday watch with history: no ritual to learn, the full story on the wrist, at the entry price point of authentic vintage.

Like all our vintage mechanical watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our partner watchmakers: movement check, examination of the dial, hands, and case. Every vintage watch we offer comes with an invoice Atelier Victor serving as a certificate, a one-year warranty, and lifetime-guaranteed authenticity.

Frequently asked questions

How does an automatic watch work?
An oscillating weight, driven by wrist movements, continuously winds the spring: when worn every day, the watch never needs to be wound by hand. After stopping, a few turns of the crown and setting the time are enough to start it again. Avoid setting the calendar between 9pm and 3am, the period during which the changing mechanism is engaged.

How do you read the day in Cyrillic?
The window displays the Russian abbreviation for the day: ПНД Monday, ВТР Tuesday, СРД Wednesday, ЧТВ Thursday, ПТН Friday, СБТ Saturday, ВСК Sunday. You remember them within a few days, and that is precisely the charm of the piece: the Soviet calendar advances each morning on the wrist, like the inscriptions Автоподзавод and 27 камней — automatic winding, 27 jewels — written on the dial.

Who is Slava?
“Glory” in Russian — the brand of the Second Moscow Watch Factory, founded in 1924. Alongside Petrodvorets, it is the other great Soviet manufacture: it designed and produced its own calibres, and had made a specialty of calendar movements — day and date — among the best assembled in the industry. Its period watches remain a direct gateway to this Moscow school.

What does the 2024 service include?
A complete service by our partner watchmakers: disassembly of the movement, cleaning of each component, replacement of the oils, rate adjustment, and reassembly. It is the maintenance that restores a forty-year-old mechanism to its original regularity, and spares it any further intervention for many years. The movement is guaranteed for one year.

Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a diameter of 36.2mm, 43.5mm of Lug-to-lug and a thickness of 13.7mm — the height of its automatic movement —, it suits wrists of approximately 15.5 to 19.5cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its tonneau carries the full presence of the Soviet eighties. The Lug width measures 18mm, which makes it easy to change the strap.
