Atelier Note

Roman numerals around an octagonal railway track, twenty-six jewels beneath, a red seconds hand — the Glory of Moscow, serviced and ready to wear.

A Slava day-date, the second Moscow manufacture

This watch is a SlavaСлава, “Glory”” — the brand of the Second Moscow Watch Factory, founded in 1924: the other great Soviet manufacture, specialist in calendar calibres. The words MADE IN USSR and the day in English in the aperture identify it as the export version, produced in the 1970s.

Its off-white dial achieves a rare balance among Soviet watches: twelve black Roman numerals in a ring, and at the centre an octagonal railway track — the minute track drawn in eight sides, a graphic detail that structures the entire dial. The day-date aperture opens at three o’clock, the words 26 JEWELS are proudly displayed, and a red seconds hand — the only colour on the piece — sweeps across the whole.

These 26 jewels are Slava’s technical signature: its double-calendar calibres were among the best-assembled in the Soviet industry, and the manufacture inscribed it on the dial. The rounded case with shoulders of 38.5mm has a true men’s format of the seventies.

The hand-wound mechanical movement was serviced in 2024 by our partner watchmakers — complete disassembly, cleaning, oiling and adjustment — and it is guaranteed for one year. The watch is fitted on a later black woven perlon strap, adjustable to the millimetre.

Why choose a vintage Soviet watch?

This vintage Slava watch occupies a precise place among vintage men’s and women’s watches: its 38.5mm case has a truly contemporary format, and it brings to Soviet vintage its Moscow manufacture — the other school, opposite Petrodvorets — with the most richly appointed calibre of its kind. Serviced in 2024, complete with its day and date, it is an everyday piece of history at the entry budget of authentic vintage.

Like all our vintage mechanical watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our partner watchmakers: movement verification, examination of the dial, hands and case. Every vintage watch we offer comes with an invoice Atelier Victor serving as a certificate, a one-year guarantee, and lifetime-guaranteed authenticity.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Slava?
“Glory” in Russian — the brand of the Second Moscow Watch Factory, founded in 1924. Alongside Petrodvorets, it is the other great Soviet manufacture: it designed and produced its own calibres, and became especially known for calendar movements — day and date — among the best assembled in the industry. Its period watches remain a direct gateway to this Moscow school.

What does 26 jewels mean?
Twenty-six jewels: the synthetic stones used as bearings for the movement’s pivots to reduce wear. This is a high count, linked to the day-date complication, whose every additional wheel is mounted on jewels — the technical signature of Slava calibres, which the manufacture displayed on the dial for buyers of the export version.

How do you set the day and date?
Using the crown, in the intermediate position, or by turning the hands through twenty-four-hour cycles depending on the calibre’s construction — we include the instructions upon delivery. Avoid any calendar adjustment between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., the period during which the changing mechanism is engaged: this is the rule for all window-display watches of this generation.

What does the 2024 service include?
A complete service by our partner watchmakers: disassembly of the movement, cleaning of each component, replacement of the oils, rate adjustment and reassembly. It is the maintenance that restores a fifty-year-old mechanism to its original regularity, and spares it any intervention for many years to come. The movement is guaranteed for one year.

Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a diameter of 38.5mm, 44.4mm of Lug-to-lug and only 9.7mm thick, it wears in a truly contemporary size on wrists of approximately 16 to 20cm — a guideline, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its slimness makes it comfortable despite its presence. The Lug width measures 18mm, and the perlon adjusts to the millimetre.
