Seiko Gold-Plated Dolce: the Japanese dress watch in Tank shape with a gilt dial
This Seiko watch belongs to the Dolce line, the Japanese house's high-end dress collection, and can be worn equally well by a man or a woman. It belongs to the great tradition of rectangular shaped watches that made the golden age of dress horology. Its rectangular case with cut corners, fully gold-plated, frames a finely finished gilt dial. The case measures 25mm (27mm with the crown) for a Lug-to-lug of 35mm and a thickness of only 4.35mm, Crystal included. An exceptionally slim piece, made to slip under a cuff.
The gilt dial plays on refined textures. A rectangular central cartouche with cut sides, with a vertical brushed finish, stands out against the gilt outer chapter, creating a subtle and elegant two-tone gold effect. A Roman numeral XII marks noon, and gilt baton indexes rhythm the rest of the dial. The SEIKO QUARTZ signatures occupy the top, the name Dolce the bottom, in handwritten script. Two slender gilt baton hands are all that is needed: no seconds hand, no date, just the essentials on this luminous backdrop.
Inside beats the Seiko calibre 9520, an extra-flat dress quartz movement reserved for Dolce watches. It is this slim construction that makes the 4.35mm profile possible, remarkably thin. In practice, maintenance is limited to a battery change by any watchmaker. The movement of this example has been checked by our watchmaker and the battery replaced before shipment.
On the wrist, this piece embraces the spirit of a de ville jewel. The warm gold-plating, the two-tone gilt dial and the black cabochon crown compose a dress watch with a strong character, in the spirit of the great classic shaped watches. It is paired here with a black crocodile-style leather strap. The Lug width of 17mm leaves the choice of replacement straps open.
