Seiko steel: the rectangular dress watch with integrated bracelet and two-tone silver dial
This Seiko watch is a rectangular-shaped watch with an integrated design, unisex, worn equally well by a man or a woman. Its rectangular steel case, with softened angles and brushed sides, extends seamlessly into its bracelet, in a fluid and graphic design typical of seventies-eighties elegance. It measures 25mm wide (26mm with the crown) for a Lug-to-lug of 34mm and a thickness of only 6.3mm. A slim, well-defined piece, made to slip under a cuff.
The silver dial plays on a refined mix of two-tone textures. A central rectangular cartouche, with a satin finish, stands out against a lighter brushed outer section, creating a subtle and elegant interplay of silver tones. Applied baton hour markers punctuate the perimeter, the SEIKO signature occupies the central cartouche, accompanied by the brand's small lightning-bolt logo. Two fine silver-tone baton hands and a matching seconds hand sweep across the whole, in the purest spirit of the minimalist dress watch.
Inside beats the Seiko 5P31 calibre, an extra-flat three-hand dress quartz movement. Its slim construction allows the watch's 6.3mm profile. In practice, maintenance is limited to battery replacement by any watchmaker. The movement of this example has been checked by our watchmaker and the battery replaced before dispatch.
On the wrist, the piece displays a confident design character. The case and the integrated steel bracelet with flat links form a supple and continuous silhouette, all in steel, highly representative of the Seiko style of the period. It is a watch that is both dressy and graphic, with great understated elegance. The original bracelet is adjusted to approximately 19cm.
Three points to note
- The silver dial with double framing, playing on two tones and a satin finish, is the piece's visual signature.
- The integrated steel bracelet with flat links extends the case in a fluid and continuous design, typical of 1980s design.
- At 6.3mm thick, it is an extra-flat watch that slips under a shirt cuff without the slightest inconvenience.

Frequently asked questions
What is an integrated bracelet?
An integrated bracelet is a bracelet whose design extends seamlessly from the case, creating a continuous and fluid silhouette. Very popular in the 1970s and 1980s, this construction gives the watch a unified, design-led look. On this Seiko, the steel flat-link bracelet follows the rectangular case perfectly.
Is the Seiko 5P31 calibre reliable?
Yes. The 5P31 is an extra-thin three-hand dress quartz movement, renowned for its reliability. Its maintenance is very straightforward: a battery change by any watchmaker is all that is needed. The movement of this example has been checked by our watchmaker and is guaranteed for 1 year.
Is the case steel or plated?
The case and bracelet are steel, a durable and resistant material that retains its shine over time. Unlike gold-plating, steel presents no risk of plating wear: it is a robust and understated choice, perfectly suited to a watch intended for daily wear.
Is this Seiko water-resistant?
No. Water resistance is never guaranteed on a vintage watch: the original gaskets have aged, and the pressure of the caseback is no longer what it was on day one. Avoid the shower, swimming pool, and sea. Simple contact with rainwater, however, does not present any difficulty.
What wrist size does this watch suit?
With a rectangular case 25mm wide and a bracelet adjustable to approximately 19cm, this is ideally a piece with a dressy, sharp profile. That said, a watch is also a matter of style: depending on taste and the look sought, it can be worn equally well by a man or a woman who appreciates shaped watches with a design-led aesthetic. Wrist size is only a guide, never a rule.
