Five point four millimeters, entirely golden

This Seiko watch, reference 6030-5250, produced in 1980, can be worn equally well by a man or a woman, with a 30mm gold-plated cushion-shaped case — a square with four generously rounded corners. Its 5.4mm thickness places it among the thinnest dress watches of its generation, where most contemporary Swiss dress watches exceed seven millimeters.

The design choice is that of complete monochrome. The golden dial features a vertical satin finish that catches the light in regular bands, in a tone exactly matched to that of the case. Twelve applied baton hour markers, also golden, and baton hands in the same color: nothing stands out, nothing contrasts. Legibility comes through relief and variations in sheen, not through tonal contrast.

A minute track printed in fine batons frames the dial and softens this uniformity. A very thin central seconds hand runs across the whole, the only visible moving element beyond the two main hands. Two inscriptions occupy the surface: SEIKO QUARTZ below twelve, and the Q emblem accompanied by its lightning pictogram just below the center.

This logo, affixed by Seiko to its quartz production, places the piece firmly in its era. The caliber 6030 powering it is an analog quartz movement whose slim architecture makes this 5.4mm thickness possible — a development focus the brand was then asserting on its dress lines.

Three points to note

  • 5.4mm thick — a low figure for a dress watch, with contemporary Swiss models generally exceeding seven millimeters.
  • Complete monochrome — dial, hour markers, hands, and case in the same tone, with legibility through relief rather than contrast.
  • Q emblem of Seiko Quartz — the logo affixed to the brand's quartz production, which places the piece in its era.

Why choose a vintage Seiko watch?

Buying a vintage Seiko watch rather than a new model means access to a leading Japanese manufacture at a controlled budget, with pieces whose construction has proven its durability. The vintage quartz watches from this period are also the easiest to maintain on the pre-owned market: a battery change is enough to set them running again.

This reference holds a precise place among vintage men's and women's watches: its 30mm format and slimness make it a vintage dress watch that can be worn equally by both, in a strictly formal register. The non-round shapes of the 1980s are now returning to favor.

Like all our pre-owned Seiko watches, this one has been opened and checked by our watchmakers: verification of the caliber and its consistency with the reference, examination of the dial, hands, and case. Every vintage Japanese watch we offer comes with an Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate, a one-year warranty, and guaranteed lifetime authenticity.

Frequently asked questions

How thick is this watch?
It measures 5.4mm, a slim figure for a dress watch: contemporary Swiss models generally exceed seven millimetres. This slenderness is made possible by the flat architecture of quartz calibres. In practice, the watch slips under a cuff without difficulty.

Is a monochrome dial legible?
Yes, but readability comes more from relief than from colour contrast: the applied hour markers cast a shadow and the hands catch the light at a different angle from the satin-finished background. In grazing light, it takes a moment longer to orient oneself. This is a classic aesthetic choice for a dress watch.

What is the Q emblem on the dial?
It is the logo that Seiko used on its quartz productions, accompanied by a lightning-bolt pictogram. At a time when the technology was still a differentiating factor, the brand wished to indicate it visually on the dial. Today, this logo is an immediate dating marker for collectors.

Is a vintage Seiko watch a safe purchase?
It is, once authenticity has been established and the condition has been described without reservation. Our watchmakers systematically open the case to verify the calibre and its consistency with the reference, and inspect the dial, hands, and all components. Each pre-owned Seiko watch sold by Atelier Victor comes with an invoice serving as a certificate of authenticity, a one-year guarantee, and authenticity guaranteed for life.

Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a width of 30mm, a Lug-to-lug of 36.7mm and a thickness of 5.4mm, it suits wrists measuring approximately 15 to 18cm. Its short Lug-to-lug relative to its width makes it comfortable on a slim wrist. The Lug width measures 19mm, making it easy to change the strap.
