The Japanese horological jewel of the 1980s

This Seiko Exceline watch, reference 7321-5910, is a feminine jewel-format piece, with a 19mm steel case in a cushion shape with cut corners. Its 4.7mm thickness makes it imperceptible on the wrist. The facets of the caseband alternate polished surfaces and sharp edges, capturing the light from multiple angles — casework that belongs more to jewelry than to ordinary watchmaking.

The silvered dial features a fine granular texture, whose irregular surface catches the light and gives substance to a piece of very small dimensions. The hour markers are reduced to simple applied batons, the hands to two fine blades. Two set stones are placed side by side beneath XII, the sole ornament on an otherwise entirely pared-back dial. The Exceline signature appears below the center, in cursive script.

The braided steel mesh bracelet extends the case seamlessly, in a tight weave that hugs the wrist like a piece of jewelry. This is what distinguishes this piece from a classic dress watch: it is worn like a jewel and read like a watch. The crown, discreet on the right side, is set with a black cabochon.

Exceline, together with Dolce, formed the high-end dress segment of Seiko on the Japanese domestic market in the 1980s and 1990s — Dolce for men's models, Exceline for women's. These pieces were never distributed in Europe through official channels, which explains their relative rarity outside Japan.

Three points to note

  • Two set stones — placed beneath XII, they are the dial's only ornament and define the piece's jewelry-oriented positioning.
  • Original braided mesh — a tight weave that extends the case seamlessly and wears like a jewelry bracelet.
  • 19mm jewel format — a scale that Seiko reserved for its prestigious women's lines, with a thickness of 4.7mm.

Why choose a vintage Seiko watch?

Buying a vintage women's watch signed Seiko rather than a new model means gaining access to a leading Japanese manufacture at a modest budget, through pieces whose construction has proven its durability. Vintage quartz watches from this period are also the easiest to maintain on the pre-owned market: a battery change is all it takes to get them running again.

The Exceline line holds a precise place among vintage women's watches: its jewel formats, elaborate bracelets, and textured dials place it in a category that few Japanese brands have claimed. Models produced for the Japanese domestic market were never officially distributed in Europe, which makes them uncommon on this side of the world.

Like all our pre-owned Seiko watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our watchmakers: verification of the caliber and its consistency with the reference, examination of the dial, hands, and case. Every vintage Japanese watch we offer comes with an Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate, a one-year guarantee, and lifetime authenticity guaranteed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Exceline line at Seiko?
Exceline was the feminine counterpart to the Dolce line, the two together forming the high-end dress segment of Seiko on the Japanese domestic market in the 1980s and 1990s. These watches are distinguished by jewelry-like proportions, elaborate bracelets, and carefully worked dial textures. They were not distributed in Europe through official channels, which explains why they are rarely seen on the Western market.

What wrist size does this watch fit?
The bracelet measures 16.5cm and suits slim to medium wrists, up to around 15.5cm. With a 19mm case and a thickness of 4.7mm, this is a strictly feminine format, worn more like a bracelet than a watch. The length can be adjusted by a watchmaker if necessary.

How should a braided mesh bracelet be cared for?
A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for routine care. The mesh can retain dust between the links: a soft brush will dislodge it without scratching the steel. Avoid abrasive products and household cleaners, which dull the original polish. In the event of heavy soiling, entrust the bracelet to a watchmaker rather than soaking it.

Is a vintage Seiko watch a safe purchase?
It is, provided that authenticity has been established and the condition is described without reservation. Our watchmakers systematically open the case to verify the movement and its consistency with the reference, and inspect the dial, hands, and all components. Each pre-owned watch Seiko sold by Atelier Victor is accompanied by an invoice serving as a certificate of authenticity, a one-year guarantee, and lifetime authenticity guarantee.

Is this watch water-resistant?
Water resistance is not guaranteed on a vintage piece. The original gaskets have aged, and we do not carry out pressure tests, which could damage the case. We recommend avoiding any prolonged contact with water, including when washing your hands.
