A stepped bezel and a single-piece bracelet

This Seiko watch, reference 7830-5130, produced in 1989, can be worn equally well by a man or a woman, with a 28.6mm steel tank case, rectangular with cut corners. Its bezel is built in a double step: a first raised level frames the piece, while a second recessed level descends toward the dial. This break creates a permanent shadow line around the dial and gives the case a depth that its slim 6.2mm thickness would not suggest.

The silver-toned dial features a smooth satin finish that catches the light in a continuous gradient, from bright to grey depending on the angle. The hour markers are reduced to simple printed batons, longer at the cardinal points, with no applied markers or numerals. Steel baton hands and a very fine seconds hand complete the ensemble. The signature is limited to SEIKO QUARTZ beneath twelve o'clock, and to the Q emblem accompanied by its lightning pictogram at six o'clock.

The steel bracelet is integrated into the case and constructed from offset brick-style links, whose alternating brushed and polished surfaces create a checkerboard pattern along the entire length. This is not an added interchangeable bracelet: the continuity between the case middle and the first links is complete, in keeping with the principle that Seiko then applied to its upper ranges.

The 7830 calibre powering it is a three-hand analogue quartz movement, whose slim architecture allows for this thickness. The late 1980s corresponded, for Seiko, to a period of maturity in these movements: the technology had been mastered for twenty years, and the focus was then on the slimness of the cases and the quality of the finishing.

Three points to note

  • Double-stepped bezel — a recess that creates a permanent shadow line around the dial and gives depth to the case.
  • Integrated bracelet with offset links — a checkerboard of brushed and polished surfaces, in complete continuity with the case middle.
  • 6.2mm thick — a profile that few dress watches achieve, including among contemporary Swiss productions.

Why choose a vintage Seiko watch?

Buying a vintage Seiko watch rather than a new model means gaining access to a leading Japanese manufacture at a controlled budget, through pieces whose construction has proven its durability. The vintage quartz watches of this period are also the easiest to maintain on the pre-owned market: a battery change is all it takes to set them running again.

This reference holds a precise place among vintage men's and women's watches: its 28.6mm format and integrated bracelet make it a vintage dress watch that can be worn equally by both, in a formal register that its all-steel construction makes more suitable for everyday wear than a golden piece.

Like all our pre-owned Seiko watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our watchmakers: verification of the calibre and its consistency with the reference, examination of the dial, hands, and case. Every vintage Japanese watch we offer comes with an invoice Atelier Victor serving as a certificate, a one-year guarantee, and guaranteed lifetime authenticity.

Frequently asked questions

What is meant by a stepped bezel?
It is a bezel constructed in several successive levels rather than as a single surface. On this piece, a first raised level frames the case and a second, set back, descends toward the dial. This step creates a permanent shadow line that highlights the dial and gives the case a visual depth that its slim thickness would not suggest.

Can the bracelet be adjusted?
Yes, it can be adjusted by removing links and currently measures 20cm. The procedure is carried out by a watchmaker, and we can take care of it before shipping if you let us know your wrist size. Please note that this is an integrated bracelet, whose attachments were designed for this specific case: it cannot be replaced with a standard strap with lugs.

What is the Q emblem on the dial?
It is the logo that Seiko used on its quartz productions, accompanied by a lightning-bolt pictogram. At a time when the technology was still a distinguishing feature, the brand wanted to signal it visually on the dial. Today, this logo is an immediate dating marker for collectors.

Is a vintage Seiko watch a safe purchase?
It is, provided that authenticity has been established and the condition is described without reservation. Our watchmakers systematically open the case to verify the calibre and its consistency with the reference, and inspect the dial, hands, and all components. Every pre-owned Seiko watch sold by Atelier Victor comes with an invoice serving as a certificate of authenticity, a one-year guarantee, and lifetime guaranteed authenticity.

Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a width of 28.6mm, a Lug-to-lug of 35mm, and a thickness of 6.2mm, it suits wrists measuring approximately 15 to 18cm. Its compact format and slim profile place it firmly in the dress watch category, equally wearable by a man or a woman. The bracelet measures 20cm and remains adjustable.
