Seiko Dolce steel: the carrée ultra-thin dress watch with golden embossed dial

This Seiko watch belongs to the Dolce line, the Japanese maison’s high-end dress collection, and can be worn equally well by a man or a woman. Its square polished steel case, with bevelled sides and clean lines, embodies the refined minimalism of the Japanese dress watch. It measures 25.4mm wide (27.6mm with the crown), with a Lug-to-lug of 34mm and a thickness of only 5mm. An exceptionally slim piece, made to slip beneath a shirt cuff.

The champagne golden dial reveals a superb honeycomb embossed texture, framed by a fine golden border, which catches the light in a silky grid of great depth. Applied golden baton hour markers punctuate its perimeter, beneath the SEIKO QUARTZ and Dolce signatures, the latter in cursive script. Two fine golden hands and a discreet seconds hand sweep across the whole, in the purest spirit of the dress watch.

Inside beats the Seiko 9521 calibre, an ultra-thin dress quartz movement reserved for Dolce watches. It is this slim construction that allows the remarkably flat 5mm profile. In practice, maintenance is limited to battery replacement by any watchmaker. The movement of this example has been checked by our watchmaker and the battery replaced before dispatch.

On the wrist, the piece plays the card of the de ville jewel. The square steel case and the golden embossed dial create an elegant contrast, highlighted here by a black lizard-style leather. This strap is not original; it is fitted with a steel Buckle. The 20mm Lug width leaves the choice of replacement straps open.

What is the Seiko Dolce line?
