Atelier Note
A five-and-a-half-millimetre steel cushion, cast into a braided mesh like a fabric — the Credor, which Seiko reserved for Japan, with a single numeral on the dial.
A 1983 Credor, the high-end line of Seiko in braided steel
This watch is a Seiko Credor, reference 5931-5231, produced in December 1983. Credor — a contraction of Crête d'Or — refers to the prestige line that Seiko created in 1974 and reserved for the Japanese market: the thinnest cases, the most advanced finishing, never distributed in Europe. Finding one here means buying a watch that was never sold on this continent.
The cushion case in steel, with flowing angles and a satin-finished bezel, measures only 5.5mm thick — and extends seamlessly into an integrated braided bracelet, a tight steel mesh like a fabric, supple on the wrist like cloth. It is the finest bracelet work in Seiko production of that period.
The silver dial plays with two lights: a satin-finished outer ring, and a sunburst centre radiating outward — separated by a simple line. A single numeral dominates it: a black Roman XII, the other hours reduced to fine baton indexes. Two steel baton hands and a slender seconds hand sweep across the whole. The fluted crown bears a black cabochon, the only dark touch in the profile.
The Seiko 5931 quartz calibre, signed with the house emblem, has been checked and fitted with a new battery; it is guaranteed for one year. A vintage Seiko Credor box is available on request.
Three points to note
01
Credor, the Crête d'Or — the prestige line of Seiko, reserved for Japan, never sold in Europe.

Integrated braided bracelet — the tight steel mesh like a fabric, cast into the 5.5mm cushion.
03
Single Roman XII — a single numeral on sunburst silver, the restraint of great dress watches.
Why choose a vintage Seiko Credor?
This vintage Seiko watch holds a distinctive place among vintage men's and women's watches: the Credor is to Seiko what jewellery lines are to the Swiss houses — the pinnacle of production, reserved for the Japanese domestic market. Its 31mm cushion can be worn by either men or women, and its braided mesh has no equivalent except on Swiss watches costing several times as much. A Japanese JDM watch in the strict sense: it has never been sold here.
Like all our vintage quartz watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our partner watchmakers: movement check, examination of the dial, hands and case. Each Japanese vintage watch we offer comes with an invoice Atelier Victor serving as a certificate, a one-year warranty, and guaranteed lifetime authenticity.

Frequently asked questions
What is Seiko Credor?
It is the prestige line that Seiko created in 1974, whose name contracts « Crête d'Or ». Reserved for the Japanese market, it brought together the maison's finest cases, most elaborate dials, and most advanced finishes — the Japanese equivalent of exceptional Swiss lines. Credor watches were never distributed in Europe: every example presented here has been imported from Japan.
Can the bracelet be adjusted to my size?
It measures 19cm and can be adjusted by trimming the mesh with a watchmaker — an operation specific to woven bracelets, which do not have removable links. It is permanent: let us know your wrist size before purchase, and we will confirm the procedure to follow so that the watch arrives ready to wear, without excessive trimming.
The dial reads 5931-5271: is that the correct reference?
Yes. At Seiko, the code printed at the bottom of the dial is the dial's own code, not the watch's. The watch reference is engraved on the caseback, here 5931-5231: the first group indicates the calibre, the second the case. A difference between the two codes is normal and is found on most Seiko watches, including Credor.
Why is there only one numeral on the dial?
By design choice: the Roman XII anchors the top of the dial, and the other hours are reduced to fine markers — the time is read at a glance, by the position of the hands, and the sunburst silver remains almost untouched. This is the idiom of the great dress watches of the 1980s, which Seiko pushed further on its Credor pieces than on any other line.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
At 31mm wide, 32mm Lug-to-lug, and 5.5mm thick, it suits wrists of approximately 15 to 18.5cm, with the bracelet closing at 19cm before adjustment — a guideline, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. The cushion case with integrated lugs wears compactly, and the mesh hugs the wrist like fabric.
